Windows 10: SFC /scannow ?? corrupt files? I'm lost...

I was bored and had been having some issues so after a little reading I decided to run "sfc /scannow". Got the message that couldn't fix some of the corrupt files so I followed the next step and then the next step till I got to the point that the post told me if I wanted to avoid a drastic option to send my .txt or log for someone to check..what do I do now?? I think I've got that file saved on my desktop so, whats my next move? I'm beginning to think I could have just lived with the issues I was having..but I'm a little OCD. Help?

I'm having precisely the same issue. It would be nice to know if DISM.exe will be able to handle the install.esd file in the future, or if there is a workaround that doesn't involve downloading a .esd/.wim converter.

I'm a bit confused about your response. I don't have a Windows 7 install disk. However, I did run CHKDSK /F from an elevated command prompt. It found no errors - all was good.

Perhaps I should have been a bit more concise describing what's going on.

1. SFC /SCANNOW found a corrupt file - "Cannot repair member file [l:34{17}]"Snipping Tool.lnk"

2. When I ran "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:WIM:X:\Sources\Install.wim:1 /LimitAccess" , the result was the file INSTALL.WIM wasn't found. I checked the folder it belonged in - the file didn't exist. There WAS a
file named INSTALL.ESD.

If I use the INSTALL.ESD file instead of the INSTALL.WIM file, will I be shooting myself in the foot? I don't want to make more problems for myself. Is the file INSTALL.WIM located elsewhere, and if so, where do I find it?

As an additional point, Windows (10) Update has been trying to download for 48 hrs - it's stuck at 54% completion. Is there a way to abort and restart it?

 

The 1st thing you have to do is wipe out any CBS Log files you have now, because they pile up.

Then you run a fresh sfc.

Then you put the CBS Log file in a zipped folder and upload it here and hope someone can take a look at it and help you out.

The files are in C / Windows / Logs / CBS

Personally, I would just reinstall Windows 10, it might be faster *Smile

Try sfc /scannow a couple of times and do a full restart. If that doesn't work try Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth from an admin command prompt. Then try sfc /scannow again.
