Windows 10: sfc /scannow failed to repair certain files

Hello,

So I've done a sfc /scannow for maintenance and noticed that there were some files that could not be repaired. And instead of writing this on a old topic I made my own.

I found a batch file created by "kronckew" on Windows 7 Help Forums
The code is:

@echo off
rem delete old files
del /q %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log
del /q c:\sfcdetails.txt
rem run sfc
sfc /scannow
rem filter out non essential junk from the cbs.log
findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >c:\sfcdetails.txt
rem open details in notepad
notepad c:\sfcdetails.txt
rem optional command to shut down & restart pc after running. this may be needed if
rem sfc replaces some critical files. uncomment (remove the 'rem') to activate.

I will upload the CBS file and the file created by this batch.
Hopefully somebody can help me out. Because I really don't want to reinstall my Windows.

SFC /scannow Cannot repair multiple files

That's a lot of BSOD. If you're encountering multiple BSODs, we can only recommend
resetting Windows 10. Trying to fix all this BSODs is somehow impossible. We may be able to fix one or two BSOD, but it may create a new BSOD. Before resetting
Windows, we recommend backing up your personal files. If you have no backup drive, you can reset
Windows 10 while keeping your personal files. To do so, kindly refer to this

link under Reset your PC drop-down menu.

Did you run SFC /SCANNOW several times? This note from the tutorial https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/2...dows-10-a.html:



Note If SFC could not fix something, then run the command again to see if it may be able to the next time. Sometimes it may take running the sfc /scannow command up to 3 times with restarting the computer after each time to completely fix everything that it's able to.

 

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

if reports as repairable then

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


your reports show a lot of mismatched hashes on your shortcut ( .lnk ) links

And It's basically stuck for an hour now on 20.0%

I'll leave it on to scan for a while longer

 

Now what do I do ?

 

download the Windows 10 ISO from here > https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/techbench

double-click the ISO to mount it and note the assigned drive letter...

Change X below to match the assigned drive letter above...

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth /source:wim:X:\sources\install.wim:1 /limitaccess

Have purchased a week ago a laptop with W10 Pro.
This needed updating to the latest version and like most geeks did a scannow check along with the usual Dism,s
As did the original poster files could not be repaired, downloaded the Techbench ISO, this rendering my computer to break down repeatedly, eventually being unable to start.
The problem is M$ updating is install. ESD, Techbench ISO is install.WIM, these being incompatible with each other.
I have reinstalled the ESD version and everything is running normally, just ignoring the so called corrupt files.
Hoping that M$ sort it out.

 

Well. clearly you do not have a handle as to what is the cause of your issue...
But it is not the install.esd or install.wim..

 

I clearly have a problem....purchased an M$ Surface Pro 4 under 2 weeks ago...now on my 2nd after the 1st had a total lockup.
This 2nd clearly has the same problem...ie- freezes, startup, etc.....trying disable fast start to see if that helps starting.
Google reveals many dissatisfied users, some even report 3 RTM,S.... looks like another RTM unless some helpful member can come up with a solution.

 

Well I hope that this will work for me.
I'm downloading it as we speak.
I'll keep you guys up-to-date if it works.

And i'll also run a new sfc /scannow after I done exactly what you said.
