Windows 10: SHA1 hash mismatch

Hello!I have discovered an archive of the windows 8 Consumer Preview direct download link from early 2012. I was planning on using it for development purposes, but the provided SHA1 file hash for the 32 bit english copy mismatches the one i downloaded. the one provided at the archived page https://web.archive.org/web/20120302175855/http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/isois E91ED665B01A46F4344C36D9D88C8BF78E9A1B39I used powershell and i made sure the algorithm was SHA1 it may not have worked however but is it normal for files download from the wayback machine to have different fi

Hashes mismatch while copying data

When i'm copying data I've been getting hashes mismatch error even for basic files, is my hard drive failing?

 

SHA1 / MD5 hashes for Tech Bench ISOs


Thanks everyone. I tried downloading again today, and this time the ISO I downloaded yielded a SHA1 hash of 3E4734DE476327F67D2E97CDEADEDB4BEA98623C. This matches a hash that I found listed on the MSDN website.

Since it's for 10240, though, and I'm trying to repair an installation of 10586, I don't know if it'll actually be any use.

EDIT: From my products.xml file, I'm now downloading what I think is the correct ESD file for English (United Kingdom), x64, Professional. Hope I'll be able to somehow use this either for DISM, or to perform a repair install of 1511.

 

Hashes mismatch while copying data

A hash is a numerical representation of a file. Basically, a complicated formula is applied to all the 0's and 1's and from that a long hexadecimal number is created. That number is called a 'hash.' (Not the same as the hash I smoke - that's different.)

When copying a large file (typically from the internet) you will frequently be shown the original file's hash. After copying the file you can calculate the hash of the copy with the same formula that was used to calculate the hash of the original. Now you
can compare the two hashes; if they are identical then the copy is identical to the original.

Therefore, a hash mismatch means that the file wasn't copied accurately. The cause depends on where you copied the file from and where you copied it to.
