there was a very brief warning notice but I was unable to read and understand it, before it disappeared. then the desk top seemed to blink and suddenly I was faced with a very basic looking screen.

  2. Password not accepted in Safe mode

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

Have you tried all the above steps suggested by Sangeeta Sarkar on September 13, 2015.

I would suggest you to provide some information to help you better.

    • Are you trying to login the Microsoft account or the Local account in safe mode?
    • Did you try with only safe mode or safe mode with networking?
    • What is the critical error you are getting?

If you are using Windows 10. To go to safe mode you have to follow the below steps.

If you are able to go to login screen in normal mode try the below steps to go to safe mode with networking.

    • At the login screen click on the power symbol.

    • Hold SHIFT + Click Restart.

    • After restarting your system, select the Troubleshoot option.

    • Select advanced options under
      Troubleshoot screen.

    • Click on Startup Settings.

    • Click Restart and follow the onscreen steps to go to
Safe Mode with networking and check if you are able to login.

    [*]
Please get back with more information, we will be glad to help you further.

  3. Safely remove hardware icon

    Hi Cynthia,

For us to properly isolate the missing "Safely Remove Hardware icon" issue, we would like to know the following:

    • Were there any changes made on your computer prior to the issue (e.g., updates, software installation)?
    • When did the issue first begin?
    • To make sure that we have not missed on anything, what troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

Normally, this icon isn’t missing and it’s most likely hidden in your Taskbar. To reveal this icon, you may click the arrow in the bottom right corner to show more sysbar icons. If it is available, you may pin it to your Taskbar by following the steps below:

    • Connect a USB flash drive or any other removable storage to your PC.
    • Click the arrow in the bottom right corner to expand the sysbar section.
    • Now locate Safely Remove Hardware icon and drag it to your Taskbar.

We look forward to your response.

    Windows 10 - Icons shift

    Hi Kerry,

Failure to keep the icons on your preferred arrangements can be related to how the
Auto arrange icons option is setup. To isolate you concern, we suggest that you confirm that this option is not checked on your settings. To do this, here are the steps:

    • Right-click on a blank space on your desktop.
    • Hover your cursor to the View option.
    • From the list of options, click the following options deselect them:
      • Auto arrange icons.
      • Align icons to the grid.

Once you're done, replicate the concern and check if the issue persists.

We'll appreciate if you can send us and update.
