Windows 10: Shortcut keys not working for a desktop shortcut

I have a shortcut on the desktop. If you double click on it, it runs the target program just fine.
Under 'properties' I have tried assigning various shortcut keys like Ctrl+Alt+N and none of them work.
I have also deleted and recreated the desktop shortcut with no luck.
This was working a couple of months ago.

If it works when you hold the FN button, then you can simply turn on the FN-lock so that you no longer have to use both buttons. Since every computer builder uses a different way to do it, your only option is to check your user manual and see how to turn
on the FN lock on your particular model of computer. Or if you don't know, contact the company that built your computer and ask them.

 

Shortcut keys not working properly

My keys that came manufactured with the computer such as brightness, keypad on/off volume, airplane/ WiFi mode, all stopped working. I have to hold down the FN key then press the control button. I find this very annoying. I went to settings and enabled
the keys but they still wont work. Please help. Thank you.

 

Does the shortcut key actually show up in the shortcut itself or does the shortcut key not get saved? Try setting the shortcut key, and clicking okay/apply and opening the properties again to see if the key is saving.

The shortcut key does get saved. This is how it looks after I entered the key then pressed OK.
Then reopened the properties dialog.



Still the shortcut key does not work

 

I'm also having the same issue just starting about 3 days ago. Shortcut keys not working to run programs, checked to make sure they were saving.

 

So for some unknown reason the problem has fixed itself.
I have no idea why.

It's possible that Microsoft released an update to Windows fixing the bug, or maybe your machine just needed a restart and a kick in the teeth! Either way, glad it is working now.

 

Shortcuts are still not working for me except for when I already have the desired program running (my shortcut for Chrome doesn't work when Chrome is not already running, for example).

 

I did find my problem. The shortcut keys do not work when I run an old program.
When I go to run that program I get a pop message saying
"Do you want to allow the following program from an unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?"
I say yes and the program runs fine but the shortcut keys stop working.
I don't know a way around the issue, except to shut down that program.
