Should I allow KB3150513 to install or not?

I see so much about this on the web and even here. However, I have not seen any info about what this does and if I should let it install.

I am running 1607 14393.1066 and have set my updates to Defer Feature Updates as I want to delay CU as long as I can.

    :)

Update KB3150513 ... Should I just install the Anniversary editiom

    I am running Edition=W10Pro; Version=1511; OSBuild=10586.633;

This was a clean install on a newly purchased PC (Feb 2016)

I have not yet received an Anniversary update

I have set Windows Update to advise me but so far have briefly reviewed then installed everything

I know I received KB3150513 a couple of weeks ago

I then noticed it again (8/10/2016) and thought

... "Oh well obviously failed last time" and just let it through

Now it's back again although by all accounts it is successfully installed

    An amount of reading later

It seems this is a precursor to the Anniversay edition update (is that basically correct ?)

But for some reason it is not registering on my PC (MS keeping DB elsewhere ?)

    I do have DiagTrack disabled

    So what I'm wondering is

Some MS logic process wants to know details about my PC so it can advise update

KB3150513 is designed to facilitate the passing of this information to MS

Because I've disabled certain services MS has not received details it wants

MS logic process recognises lack of detail and reinstigates KB3150513 update

    So two questions

    1) Does my theory sound plausible or is it plain paranoid delusion bought on by too much unfettered browsing ?

    2) Should I just install the Anniversary Edition ?

And two follow up questions to question 2)

2a) Are there any non-paranoid sites which sensibly explain differences in Anniversay Edition ?

2b) Is there a reliable 'Check your system for compatibility with Anniversay Edition' site ?

    Many thanks in advance

Update KB3150513 ... Should I just install the Anniversary editiom

    Just for completion

For reasons I am not clear about last week (Jan 16 to Jan 20) an update was downloaded and installed successfully

    I am now on W10Pro : 1607 : 14393.693

Which appears to be behaving as intended

  4. Should I allow KB3150513 to install or not?

I have 2 win10 computers and maintain my brothers win10 computer: all 3 of are on 1607 14393.1066 and KB3150513 are included.
There aren't any problems with any of the computers. Create a system image backup before allowing. Even though you are delaying it, it's just a matter of time before you will not be able to delay it but you can wait until then if you wish. Personally I'm not in favor of delaying any win10 updates unless I see a warning on our win10 forums. The mysterious Windows 10 KB3150513 is back, bringing a bevy of bugs mentions what it does and includes Microsoft's description. As you mention there are reports on this on the web and this article does report some bugs issues, but there aren't any bugs in my system. With that said, I prefer to create system image backups and deal with update issues immediately: fortunately no issues so far.

Thank you, and I always do a complete Macrium Image before any updates. The only thing I wish to delay is CU.

  6. Then do not install that, it justs gives you a faster route to the CU. It places a link in your Windows update section in settings and if you click on it you will begin your journey to it.

But it keeps showing in my updates and asks me to d/l it. Can I somehow tell it to leave me alone with this KB?

Should I allow KB3150513 to install or not?

I don't want the CU just yet on my Windows Home laptop until MS solve the initial bugs. I've set the laptop to a metered connection and have declined to install KB3150513. So far, I don't have the CU *Smile

    Good tip Josey..
If I do this will it also stop the KB3150513 from telling me to download and install it?

You have to click on that link and that reg entry removes it. You have to add the entry that is in the REG link, even if there is one already there. The prompt will go away as will the image in post#7

  14. Seems this KB re emerged today but with a 01-05 (may) date stamp in its description. So I got this KB last week and now again today. No idea why but it installed without incident and seems to only be for 1703 non creator builds
