Windows 10: Should I install Windows 10 or not?

I literally copied a Windows ISO to my usb stick and I'm not sure if I'll break my laptop. Please help me decide. I want to install but but I'm too scared as well! *DohI also use ubuntu 14.04 LTS

I would go with the clean install. To make it easy, use the Windows 10 ISO, double click it to mount it then start setup, choose the option 'Keep Nothing' during setup:

Can I install Windows 10 directly or should I install windows 8.1 and then upgrade to 10 because my key was provided dor Windows 8.1 ?

Doing a copy to a usb stick will not even boot you need to use something like rufus to copy the files so that the usb stick will be boot able. This tutorial will tell you what need to happen. USB Flash Drive - Create to Install Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums[1]=General%20Tips

 

Create an image backup of your current hard drive, all of it, to an external USB attached hard drive.

Once you have that you can play with Windows 10 since it will be easy to recover if things go bad or you don't like it.

 

No, do NOT install it IF the laptop is you primary/only system.

REMEMBER THIS: Windows 10 is in BETA and EVERY build breaks something for someone.

Wait until Win 10 SP1 is released.

Windows 10 works "fairly" for most of us, but if you're not experienced in such things you may have a big headache.

I will erase my USB stick and use LiLi to burn the iso. And when it expires, I'll install Ubuntu again, then I will need to be away from my laptop so i can not be startled. *Eek!

 

What about a duel boot?

 

Yep, a dual boot or a Virtual machine is advised

I tried to find a tutortial (I know a few exist), but wasn't successful.

Try searching the tutorial section here on TenFoprums and over on EightForums.com (these should work just as well on Win10)

The tuts are Windows centric, but there is plenty of good information that can be used.
VMplayer (the free version) works in Linux - I think you have to look in the lower right hand corner of the web site to find the free player version.

whs is one member who knows the ins and outs - if you get stuck, search his tutorials.

 

I'm running a dual boot with Linux Mint and Windows 10. It seems to work fine when it wants to.
