Windows 10: Side By Side Error

I have a Win 10 desktop which was new at the beginning of the year. I recently applied a patch to a program Cyberlink PowerDVD as recommended by the vendor. The patch/program failed to install causing the desktop to blue screen. There were no Windows crash dumps, but the event log showed:


Activation context generation failed for "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD20\PowerDVD.exe.Manifest".Error in manifest or policy file "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD20\Kanten.X.MANIFEST" on line 0. Invalid Xml syntax.

Attempting to run the program gave a windows error message "side by side configuration is incorrect". The product support has suggested a number of options starting with:


Uninstall the program


Reinstall the program - this ended with a blue screen.


Replace the 2008 C++ Redistribution I uninstalled and reinstalled the 2008 Redistribution. This made no difference. The machine still blue screened when installing the program.


After the initial uninstall, the subsequent reinstall doesn't complete and is unable to be uninstalled by Windows, ie no uninstall link associated with the program.


The vendor's final suggestion is a complete reinstall of the desktop which I am reluctant to do.


Any suggestions to avoid the final step.

Error: No work available to process

Hmm. Either it's put out errors and WCG is limiting the work units available, or the project list may not be set to supply other WU when one runs out. (if the problem lies here and not on your end)

On the options to your left, if you go into Results Status, select the computer from Device Name and then look through results see if either they were returned late, errors or any other kind of issue that would stop the servers supplying WU from that perspective.

If there are no errors then it's maybe down to your project list. So selecting Device Manager from the left menu and then clicking on the profile assigned to that computer and make sure that it's assigned to receive WU for other projects if they run out.

At least those steps will rule out problems from the WCG end.

^ what they said will both work. i suggest updating directX, and in the future please try and list the exact error message... and i want a muffin.
