Windows 10: Since latest update in October 2020 to build 19041.572 Cortana is no longer opening apps

Hi there,


Since the recent update to windows in October 2020 I have noticed that Cortana no longer opens programs when I ask.


For example "Open Twitch App" and instead all I get back are Bing search engine results.


Looking through a large number of support articles that relate to years old windows builds there is no current answer that I can see to why Cortana has stopped doing this.


In cortana setting all available permissions are on and it should be working.


Any ideas how to get Cortana to respond to voice activated commands again?


As Cortana is responding with Bing searches, then at least I know Cortana can hear me and can talk back to me.

Just seems limited to doing internet searches.

Mail app will not open on 10041.

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it.

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

• Open powershell as administrator
• Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
• Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)
