    Skip the Anniversary Update?

Is it possible to skip the anniversary update but still get security updates?
The question is not whether this is a good idea. Just, is it possible.

You can't skip it. I've already tried. You will not receive the anniversary update notification if you did.

    Windows 10 Anniversary Upgrade

Can I skip the other updates and upgrade my windows 10 from the 1st version to the Anniversary version? Is it safe? Thanks.

    Skip the Anniversary Update?

it's really difficult to get a clear answer to something with regards to win10. Not sure you can block it completely but you can prevent downloads if over a metered connection. The 1607 update might be deferred if you install it then roll back. It will be fine if you leave it on 1511 and wait till the next major update which isn't too far away. This is what i'm going to do. We'll see if this behaves any better.

First off I don't know if you can. But if you can and decide to skip the AU then you might have issues getting other updates since they might be built upon the need for the AU to be there.

  6. With Win10 Pro and above, one can "defer upgrades", no?

For Pro, this deferment won't last forever, but it will afford the user a bit of time for MS to sort out some of the worst issues with 1607?

I am currently using that approach on my Win10 Pro box.
This week, I got the usual 3 Black Tuesday patches for 1511, but (thankfully) was neither offered nor forced to take 1607.

Yes,, with pro you can but I don't know if you can defer just the AU and still get anymore. It might work but the only way to tell is to try it out. I suspect that security updates for non windows products like Office will continue to come down.

I don's see any reason for not getting the AU at this point.

  8. Skip the Anniversary Update?

I got all 3 of last week's Patch Tuesday deliveries on schedule, but no AU -- this was what I anticipated.

So, yes, I think the ability to defer the "upgrade" is separate from the usual patches.
(I have "defer upgrades" enabled, as well as the GP edit to "notify but do not install" for regular updates, under Pro v.1511.)

At least this is working for me.

I will have to upgrade eventually, as I am running Win10 Pro and cannot defer indefinitely.
I have seen plenty of reasons to hold off for the AU for a while, but that is another subject for another thread.*Wink

    Cheers,

The main reason I ask is because these are PCs in a work enviroment and I just do not have time right now to be going in and reconfiguring my preferences, tweaks, and settings. I need to put that off until I have the time.
The PC is set to be a metered connection so can put it off fine. But because you can't select which updates to install, I may have to just not do any at all if AU shows up.

From what I can tell the options for controlling Windows upgrades/updates for Win10 Home users are virtually non-existent. What I've done is use services.msc to disable the Windows Update service. I think this will stop all updates, but since my Win10 system has been running fine for a long time I think this is a better option for me than having the Anniversary Ugrade install itself. I've tried it quite a few times and it either fails and leaves my system unbootable or fails and reverts to my current system, leaving a bunch of junk on my boot drive.

In that case I would postpone it until you have the time and bandwidth. You can always download the ISO for the AU from a non metered connection and update from that when you have time to do it.
I suspect that you will still get security update for things like Office.

    Hi, Sorry.
I have set the registry key to show a metered connection to gain some control over updates. But I have more than adequate broadband on my cable internet service.

    Skip the Anniversary Update?

Try using Windows Update MiniTool to hide the update. Here is a YouTube video on how it works. In the video, he experienced a delay on checking for updates. On Windows 10, I didn't have that long delay.
