    Skype Asks for Permission to Use Camera when It Already Has It.


    When I attempt to video call through Skype, I get a prompt saying "To make this call, Skype needs permission to use your camera. To grant Skype permission to access your camera go to Windows > Settings > Privacy > Camera."


    In my settings, Skype already has permission to use my camera. What is going on?


    I am using Skype version 8.30.0.98 Application version 14.30.98.1000 on Windows 10.

    Hi Nicky,

    Since your camera has worked before, there may be changes on your computer that caused it to stop working. For us to isolate this problem, we would like to know the following information:

    • Have you performed any updates or made any changes on your computer before the camera stopped working?
    • Is the camera working with other apps?
    • Have you set Skype as one of the apps that can use the camera?

    While waiting for your reply, let's verify if Skype is one of the apps that is allowed to use the camera. Follow the steps below:

    • Click the Windows logo, then select Settings.
    • Click Privacy, then Camera.
    • Make sure Let apps use the camera is turned on.
    • Under Choose apps that can use your camera, make sure that Skype
      is set to ON.

    Webcam permission request (Skype)


    On my new hp laptop, every time I video call someone on skype, it always asks for permission to use the webcam. Before it just turned on automatically. How do i stop the permission requesting and make it turn on automatically?

    If you have the camera connected to the computer, I would suggest that you disconnect the camera and then try to open the Camera app.



    If the camera app opens, follow the steps below:

    • Press “Windows key + C” from your keyboard to open “Charms bar”.
    • Select “Settings” option.
    • Select “Permissions” option.
    • Turn on “Allow this app to access your: Webcam and Microphone” option.
    • Lose the app by pressing “Alt key + F4” from your keyboard.
    • Reopen the Camera app.
    • Connect your camera and then check how this app works.
