Windows 10: Sleep and Power Off Not Functioning Properly

Recently I noticed that my PC power and sleep functions seem to be operating improperly or not at all. I have my power button set to put my PC to sleep. This would stop my fans, turn off my PC lights for power reduction, and shut off the lights to all my peripherals. Now all it seems to do it cut power to the monitor. When I move my mouse or push a key to "wake" it like I used to, it brings power back to my monitor, but my desktop isn't locked like it used to when I put it in sleep. Please follow the below methods and check if it works,

Method 1: Power Troubleshoot.

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with power. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your Power.

Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel.

• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons.
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel.
• Run the Power troubleshooter.

Method 2:

Please let us know whether you are able to see the sleep mode options by referring the following steps

1. In Search bar type Control panel

2. Select Power options

3. In power saver select change power settings and after that
select Change advanced power settings in that check whether you can see the
sleep mode.

My computer does not work with sleep function after latest Windows 10 upgrade.

From your description, I understand your Sleep function on the PC is not working properly after upgrading to Windows 10 operating system.



Before assisting further, i would like to ask you few questions:

  Did you check if the sleep settings are set appropriately?

  What happens when you perform Sleep function on the PC?
  

You may be facing the above issue due to change in the power settings from the
Control panel page on the PC.



If you have not fiddled with the power settings, I suggest you to change the
Power options from Control panel settings by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
  Power Options and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Select Change when the computer sleeps option from the left side panel of the window.
  
• 
  Set the timing from the drop down bar under
  Turn off the display and Put the computer to sleep options on the window.
  
• 
  Click on Save changes.

  Close the window and check if the changes are effective.

What happen to the sleep mode function?

Since the Sleep option is not available in both System and Power Sleep settings, I suggest that you run the Power troubleshooter to help us determine what might be causing this problem. Follow these steps:

• In the Cortana search, type in Troubleshoot, and select it in the search results.
• Under Troubleshoot, click Power, then Run the troubleshooter.
• Hit Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let the troubleshooter finish and share with me the results. Please take note if you encounter further errors.
