Slow boot and shutdown after updating to 1903

I've updated my windows from 1803 to 1903 yesterday and have noticed starting up my PC took significant longer. Usually it takes 10-15 seconds from completely off to the login screen but after the update the PC will show a black screen after the boot loading screen and stays like that for more than 4 minutes until the login screen shows up. There is no mouse pointer in the black screen. The same happens when shutting down, it takes a few minutes before the fans stop.

    Things I've tried:

    Clean disk

    Clean boot

Upgrade again using the media creation tool from Microsoft

I've tried booting in safe mode but it wouldn't even load. It freezes at the Windows logo (for me its an “Acer Predator” logo).

sfc /scannow couldn't find any problems

The repair tool/troubleshoot in the shift-restart couldn't find any problems as well

    :)

Slow boot, slow shutdown, and slow program starts.

    @Syncopator
If you open your trace file and get this message, about events lost, then don't bother to upload the file. we can't get the whole picture of what's going on.

I'd suggest you increase the buffers size, in the "SampleGeneralProfileForLargeServers.wprp" file to 1024.

Or you can download my wprp file and copy it to the WPT path (%programfiles(x86)%\Windows Kits\10\WindowsPerformance Toolkit) TransferNow

With the buffers size increased, I hope this time we'll get a complete boot trace file, we can analyze and hopefully identify the delay cause.

    Slow Shutdown and Restart

    Hi,

I suggest you to run the Power troubleshooter to resolve the random power issue.

Run the built in Power Troubleshooter on the system.

Follow the steps below to run power troubleshooter.

            • Type troubleshooting in the search box. Click on the
Troubleshooting from the search results so obtained.

            • Click on View all on the left pane on the next Window.

            • Pick Power from the list so available, this would launch
              Power Troubleshooter

            • In the Power Troubleshooter, you have to click
              Next option

            • This will start the automatic detection and fixing of issues.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to perform a clean boot to check if any third party application is causing the issue, as clean boot helps in eliminating software conflicts.
