Windows 10: Slow windows explorer and program initialization

Hello Everyone,



I have a 2015 Dell E5540 with Windows 10 Pro installed (version 1803, build 17134.165) that is fully updated. I recently did a clean install.


My problem is the computer is exceptionally slow to load all programs (none or especially slow), it has laggy response to input commands to the onboard keyboard and mouse, and even worse, it is slow to open the native file explorer. (~7.5 seconds before the window appears/any indication that anything is happening, fully loaded at 9.5 seconds).


I have run the windows troubleshooters, windows update, Dell Support Assist/ Hardware scans, Windows defender, Malwarebytes Premium (full scan), multiple restarts, yet I cannot find any problems at all. Admittedly this is the limit of my knowledge and abilities

Windows Explorer Replacement?

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer

 

Why did the startup window get cleared?

I didn't missed any step, the list was gone and gone , even after using lot of programs the programs were not listed in that list.

 

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
