Windows 10: Slow Wired Internet in Windows 10 (Not the case in Ubuntu)

Posted this on Reddit yesterday to no avail unfortunately.

I am currently having internet issues on my desktop setup with a Asus Strix B350-F mobo, running Windows 10 (ver. 1909) on a wired internet connection. I also have the latest Intel gigabit ethernet drivers.

I am subscribed to Shaw's internet 600 plan but I am only getting ~178 down on Ookla speedtest. For comparison I am getting ~360 down on my iPhone 8. I even ran Ubuntu (20.04 LTS) off a live USB (same computer), and I got up to 466 down.

What are some steps I could take to troubleshoot the issue? I have attached a screenshot of my network processes (I usually don't run Google Play Music player and it made no difference after I closed it) to show what is going on.

• Have you installed all pending Windows updates?
• Have you tried connecting to some other Internet connection and check if the same issue occurs?

We suggest you to connect your system to some other network and check if the same slow Internet connection issue persists. If no then there must be issue with your Internet connection.

• What is the make and model of the laptop?
• What is the Windows 10 version and Build installed? (Type winver in Windows search/Run command)
• What type of internet connection are you using (wired/wireless)?
• Are you facing lag issue with any other device like a smart phone or a different laptop to the same network?
• Do you face the same issue connecting the Laptop to a different network?
• Did you try connecting the laptop using an Ethernet cable?

Very slow internet on Windows 10

Well if that doesn't fix or improve things there's other stuff to try and I'm sure that other members will have suggestions. I remember having issues due to wiring issues in the past that involved stripping back the ends of wires and reconnecting the master socket.

Another thing not yet mentioned. If connecting via Wi-Fi other nearby networks can interfere.




So in my case it would be best to configure router channel avoiding the channels used by other nearby networks.
