Windows 10: Smartcard authentication window keeps popping up.

I need a smartcard for work to sign into certain websites, BUT I do NOT need it to log into windows. When I am not using the card for those websites, the smartcard authentication window keeps popping up throughout the day. It doesn't have focus I can send it to the back so it doesn't affect me but it is annoying. I called my helpdesk and they basically deleted the smartcard certificates. It worked, but I couldn't sign into the website. So I googled the issue to reload the certificates. I can now sign into the website, but now the smartcard authentication window keeps popping up.Here are

I have a smartcard that I cant get to work, Im not a tech but it seems like the driver for the reader or the card itself needs to be installed

Its also possible that I need to use the card to authenticate for AAD,

Its a MS smart card but it has a tmobile branding on it. Weird right..?? It also has numbers which aren't in any sprint system

Does anyone know an easy way to set this smartcard up with the reader so I can discover its use. Ive been kicking it around for almost 1 year its confusing as hell.

AFIAK, login to Windows 10 isn't possible with Microsoft Authenticator app.

Select a certificate for authentication pop up

Have a look in the Task Scheduler and I believe you'll find a task that produces this window.

From the search on the taskbar, type task scheduler and then enter.








Click on Task Schedule Library to display a summary of scheduled tasks.







Search the scheduled tasks for an item related to the pop-up window that annoys. Double click the task, select the triggers tab, double-click the trigger event then remove the check for enabled. This will disable the trigger for that scheduled task. Be aware, there may be multiple triggers in which case each trigger will require to be disabled.








Some individuals might suggest just completely deleting the triggers, I prefer to disable them so that I have a record of the original intended settings. With other events containing multiple triggers, I may just outright delete some of them.

Keep in mind that any Windows Updates or installation of apps may change these settings requiring you to tweak them to your liking again.
