Windows 10: Smartcard Reader Driver Installation

Hi,

I have two laptops. One is with Windows 10 Home Edition and the other one is with Windows 10 Enterprise Edition.


I have a Smartcard Rader from Athena. The model is ASE IIIe USB. I have the driver installer for this reader but the installer is pretty old. This product is now discontinued so I can't get the updated driver for Windows 10.


The driver was working fine with Windows 7 and I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Enterprise Edition but now I can't install the driver. The interesting thing is that I tried to install the driver on my other laptop with Windows 10 Home Edition and it was successful and the reader is working perfectly. It's just with Windows 10 Enterprise Edition that I am unable to install the driver and make the reader work.

Smartcard Reader not reading SD card

Platform: Windows 10

64 bit desktop computer

Card reader: Microsoft Usbccid Smartcard Reader (WUDF)

Card reader has light on. When an SD card or a XD card inserted into card reader, second light comes on but no sound, no new windows and card doesn't appear in File Explorer. Device Manager says that card reader is working properly and that the latest driver
is installed. Any ideas?

Is it possible and if yes how to logon in windows 10 (home version 64-bits) with a smartcard?
Open Source software?
Microsoft build-in?
I already installed the drivers for the smartcard reader and the middleware.
I have a Belgian Eid card and I can connect to sites which need a smartcard so that is ok.

Smartcard login

My new laptop, a Thinkpad T480s has a smartcard reader and is shipped with Window 10 Pro. How can I use the smartcard reader to log into Windows using a smartcard?

I'm not really interested in all kinds of technical stuff about smartcards, I'm just a home user and I have a smartcard reader and several smartcards that might be usable. Simple as that. I don't need filesystem encryption for now either.

I see it as just logging in with an alternative input - not unlike fingerprint login really.

But instead of fingerprint, I want to use smartcard.

How to do it?
