    Hi John,

    We suggest that you try the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
    • Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.
    The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

    Compressing a external hard drive

    Hi,

    Thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

    Compressing your hard drives data does give you more space, however you will see a performance decrease as when the computer needs to access data, it will have to uncompress it first, read/write to it then recompress it. Also please refer the suggestion
    from Ken blake.

    'Compress this drive to save disk space' .. does anyone use this?
    (Applies to Windows 10).
