  1. Software works on v.1903 but not v.1909?

I recently purchased software called Publisher Rocket/KDPRocket that uses the Amazon API to scrape book ranking data from Amazon.com based on keyword searches.

The software runs fine on an older 6-7yo laptop running Windows 10 v. 1903, build 18362.592. But it fails in several particular, critical ways e.g., retrieving keywords on a brand new Dec 2019 desktop PC running Win 10 v. 1909, build 18363.657. The software has otherwise installed correctly in the sense that it starts up and performs a few basic functions like fetching Amazon book categories.

I have performed the normal trouble shooting on the desktop: uninstall/re-install; disabled firewall, anti-virus, VPN; tried Safe Mode with Networking. The problem seems to be entirely contained in the differences between Win 10 updates v. 1903 and 1909. Since the desktop was built after the Nov 2019 update, I can't restore to a point that might test the different versions.

Does anyone know what particulars between the releases might account for the failure, or where I can take my troubleshooting? I'm not technical enough to tease out those differences from changelogs or the release notes I've been able to find online.

    :)

  2. Got v.1903? You Probably Have v.1909 Too

I've got news for you: If your Windows 10 PC is currently running v.1903 ... then it may
    already have v.1909.

    I'm quoting from the
    Windows IT Pro Blog
    :

"Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 share a common core operating system with an identical set of system files. As a result, the new features in Windows 10, version 1909 were included in the latest monthly quality update for Windows 10, version 1903 (released
October 8, 2019), but are currently in a dormant/disabled state. These new features will remain dormant until they are turned on via an “enablement package,” a small, quick-to-install “master switch” that simply activates the Windows 10, version 1909 features.

The enablement package is a great option for installing a scoped feature update like Windows 10, version 1909 as it allows you to update from version 1903 to version 1909 with a single restart, reducing update downtime and, thus, enabling you to take advantage
of new features right away. Additionally, since Windows 10, versions 1903 and 1909 share a common baseline, applications and drivers that worked with version 1903 are designed to work as-is with version 1909, just like any Windows 10 quality update."

So, if you receive your updates from Windows Update, as we should, the v.1909 update installation should be faster.

I couldn't resist ... had to try it. So, after making an image backup, I ran Windows Update. Here's how it went:

    3:58 PM "Getting things ready"
    3:59 PM "Downloading" (14 seconds)
    3:59 PM "Installing"
    4:01 PM "Restarting"
4:04 PM Back at the desktop and ready to roll!

    Holly *** that was fast!

P.S. I am not a 'Windows IT Pro.' Not even close. I just enjoy learning about IT.

    V.1809 to V.1909?

It appears from other posts here that MS has pulled v.1909 from WU, hence the FU to v.1903 showing up after the last Patch Tuesday CU. A list of events during the update:
11:32 AM Clicked the link to FU to v.1903 and the system found updates available.
11:33 AM Status went to Getting Things Ready.
11:49 AM Status 100% and Downloading began.
11:54 AM Status 100% and Pending Install.
    11:58 AM Status Installing.
12:44 PM Status 100% and Pending Restart.
12:45 PM Restart from Message Center panel.
12:48 PM Working on updates (blue background screen) This ran a rather long time.
2:58 PM Updated finished after 3 auto restarts.
After nearly 3 1/2 hours, the update history has been reset correctly without the previous multiple failed updates and the system appears to be running correctly.
Wonder if we'll ever see the FU to v.1909 on the WU page?

Software works on v.1903 but not v.1909?

    V.1809 to V.1909?

Has anyone gone from v.1809 to v.1909 yet? The WU FU to 1903 failed (twice) on my system and I rolled back to 1809. WU says v.1903 is successfully installed along with a first failed v.1903 and it also shows (correctly) that v.1809 is installed. WINVR also shows v.1809 to be installed. WU is now showing the "Download and install now" link after this week's v.1809 CU update, but I'm wondering if the FU will be successful from v.1809?
