Solution: How do I view a cid link?

I want to give an answer to the locked thread How do I view a cid link?, because 415 user have the same question.

    Here is the question:

I sometimes receive emails with a cid link, for example, "cid:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***217BF0." In Windows 7, I could click the link and view the file. Now with Windows 10, when I click the link, I get a message saying, "You'll need a new app to open this cid" and then the only option given is "Look for an app in the Store." So I click that and it opens the Store and says, "Your search for 'cid' had no results." So how do I view the file?

Here is the answer from filext.com: CID images are images embedded in emails. CID means Content-ID and is defined in RFC2392. Example for an HTML email composed with Hotmail/Outlook/Word is <img src="cid:image001.png@01D58597.004FBFC0">. To view the images, just forward the email and check the attachment. But note, some email provider removes such cid images.

    :)

  2. How do I view a cid link?

    Hi Ric,

    Thank you for your response.

I would suggest you to save or download the file from the mail link rather viewing in directly.

The fastest and easiest way to open your CID file is to double-click it. This allows the intelligence of Windows to decide the correct software application to open your CID file.

In the case that your CID file doesn't open, it is highly likely that you do not have the correct software application installed on your PC to view or edit CID file extensions.

Use your favorite browser and search for the CID file viewer and you may find one suitable to view the file.

Hope this information helps. Keep us posted to help you better.

How do I view a cid link?

Thanks, but I still can't open it. As I said, this is a link, not an attachment, so double clicking doesn't do anything different from single clicking. A search for CID file viewer just brings up ways to open files with a .cid extension. Your message
also references CID file extensions. The file I want to open has a .jpg extension. I have no trouble opening JPG files, but this is in a cid: link. Once again, the link is "cid:*** Email address is removed for privacy ***217BF0."
