Windows 10: SOLUTION - Start menu disappears, start menu will not open [Solved]

PROBLEM STATEMENT: All of the sudden one day the Start Menu in Win 10 stopped working, clicking the button or pressing the Win key had no effect.


After spending hours exploring all manner of weird and wonderful *hacks* on the Internets to no effect I have stumbled across the following fix (for me anyway).I post this here in the hope that others will find the post and find it useful.


CAUSE = The no Start Menu issue may be to do with sizing of the Start Menu getting messed up. (i.e. is super small or off the screen - I have a multi screen setup with imperfect connections so sometimes the screens are cycling through on/off which may have thrown things out). SOLUTION that worked for me is:

Go to SETTINGS > PERSONALISATION > START > then toggle all the toggle buttons…. I changed them all but I suspect that turning on “Use Start Full Screen” + using 'full screen start' + then reverting to 'regular start' kicked the start menu back into gear.
Start menu is now back working without issue.

Windows 10 Start menu issue

Ive always had issues with the start menu. Pin to start sometimes doesn't work. Now I cant move the icons. And the right click menu sticks. If I do manage to move one it disappears on to reappear later.
Love 10 other than that. Whats the deal? I would like to organize my icons. Ive tried tablet mode too

Another thing it does when I first restart its bright. Then if I try to move something it dims

That's what I had, I honestly can't remember how I fixed it though. I just had to use the Pin to Start Menu thing.
