  1. [SOLVED] How can I create a default opener for '.etl' files?

    *SOLUTION*

With a bit of thought, I solved this myself. I'm leaving this here to help others...

I created a CMD program: 'c:\CMD & tiny apps\OPEN ETL FILE.CMD', that contains a single line of text:

    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventvwr.msc" /l:%1

Then, I double-clicked on a '.etl' file and used the resulting dialog to point it to 'c:\CMD & tiny apps\OPEN ETL FILE.CMD'. It works.

    *END SOLUTION*

I want clicks on '.etl' files to automatically open them, thusly:
    "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mmc.exe" "C:\WINDOWS\system32\eventvwr.msc" /l:"...filespec..."

That command line works, but creating a file association seems impossible.

    Any ideas out there?

    Warm Regards,

    Mark.

    :)

  2. Cannot delete .etl files - etl files created event though Windows Kits not installed.

Looks like I have solved this:

Installed Windows Performance Toolkit 10 and ran xbootmgr -remove. Whilst this created a trace (.etl) file on C:\ this was easily deleted and subsequent re-boots have not produced any further trace files.

    Thank you for your help.

    opening .dds files with gimp

Simply, HOW? I got the DDS plugin but the POS wont open DDS files still. Can someone give me a step-by-step rundown of how to install the DDS plugin for gimp so I know if I'm missing something?

  4. [SOLVED] How can I create a default opener for '.etl' files?

Change How Folders Open By Default (My laptop keeps using CMD)

    Hi,

Sorry for the delayed response. I suggest you to set File Explorer as the Default program and check if that helps. To do this, refer the steps given below.

    • Open Control Panel.
    • Search for Default Programs.
    • Go to Default Programs.
    • Look for File Explorer towards the left pane and select it.
    • Set this as default program and apply changes.
    • Check if the issue persists.

    Hope this helps.
