SOLVED Trying to upgrade Win10 32-bit to 64-bit

I have a PC which is running Windows 10 32-bit, and I want to upgrade it to 64-bit. I have checked the hardware; it is 64-bit capable.

So, having backed up my files & documents, I downloaded the Media Creation Tool, and had it create a bootable USB stick to install the UK-English 64-bit version from. The tool happily did so.

I went into the BIOS, changed the boot-up sequence to the USB drive (yes, it is listed and therefore bootable) and re-booted.

This is what happens: an underscore character ("_") blinks at the to left of the screen for about 15 seconds. Then, the light-blue Windows logo appears briefly in the middle. Then the blinking underscore appears again. Meanwhile, the USB stick's LED blinks merrliy.

But that's all. Nothing more happens. I left it for 20 minutes, and both the underscore and the USB LED were still blinking away, but nothing else.

I have tried a different USB stick. I have used the media creation tool again. No difference.

What am I not doing right here? Should the USB stick be formatted in a certain way? Should it not exceed a certain size? Or is the media creation tool corrupted? Any ideas?

    :)

  2. Upgrading Win10 32 bit to 64 bit

I can't seem to upgrade my Win10 Pro from 32 bit to 64 bit and even though I have a 64 bit processor.

It goes through all the setup, but when finally completed, it still has the 32 bit OS only.

I used the media creation tool made from my present running 32 bit system and chose 32/64 bit for the install.

Seems to be the only way it would install.

Even tried running a 64 bit update disk from another computer that I used for upgrading it from Win7 and whereas it wouldn't accept it, at all.

Should I perhaps try using that now upgraded Win10 Home 64 computer for making new media and for using a flash drive this time, especially since it will now take more than a DVD will hold. Supposedly you can use this media in other computers for upgrading,
if I am understanding this correctly.

Computer is running super slow as well, with the latest updates and hoping to cure it some, with a 64bit update.

    Windows 10 Upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit

So, Windows 10 Upgrade is being rolled out worldwide, and I have 'reserved' my upgrade.

Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I'm planning to 'upgrade' it to Windows 10 64-bit (via fresh install, of course).

After reading many references, these will be the steps I'll do:

    1. Let the "Get Windows 10" app upgrade my OS to Windows 10 32-bit
    2. Note the activation key
    3. Download the Installation Media for Windows 10, but choosing 64-bit instead
    4. Perform a clean install
    5. Reactivate using the activation key in Step #2

(Of course I'll backup my data first.)

However, I still have some questions:

    1. On Windows 7, the activation key does not differ between 32- or 64-bit versions. Is it still so with Windows 10?
    2. Will I be able to download a different architecture on Step #3?
    3. Is there anything I need to prepare beforehand?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Win7 32 bit to Win10 64 bit

    ...that's my question too... Win7Pro 32 to Win10 64 an option???

No you can't go from 32 bit to 64 bit, if you have a windows 7 pro 64 bit disk, then you should install that first.
