Windows 10: [SOLVED] Windows 10 fails to update from 1803 to 1903 with 0x800701B1- 0x2000A

Hi all,


I'm soo angry - there is no way i can stop updates , and PC automatically reboots every second night and fails to install 1903 with :


0x800701B1- 0x2000A
The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase with an error during PREPARE_FIRST_BOOT operation.




I have tried :

1. Troubleshooter
Says i only have an option of pending updates (yes, 1903 pending... Guess what happens if i pick it - installl, reboot, uninstall, reboot)


2. Using standard Windows update option - no help


3. Using USB with instalation media - same result


4. running this from both Safe and normal modes:

net stop cryptsvc
net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
ren c:\windows\softwaredistribution softwaredistribution.old
ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 catroot2.old

SFC /SCANNOW
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponentStore
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth


The most sad point in all this situation that makes me really cry aloud - i can't really disable the update to 1903 ! It just kicks in automatically rebooting my mahcine , which has to be online 24 hours doing things.


If theres any guru who could tell me which logs to post from where , and who can try to help me on this - i would be very thankful (And looking at amount of similat questions online i think theres lots of people experiencing same issue)

Thanks. This is a very very different case, which I haven't seen before. It looks like the boot store is somewhat messed up and/or current BIOS has a problem.

2019-10-12 13:55:42, Error SP CAddBootEntry: Failure while adding the boot entry. Error: 0x800701B1[gle=0x000001b1]

2019-10-12 13:55:42, Error IBSLIB BCD: Failed to export alterations to firmware. Status: c000000e[gle=0x000001b1]

I have two recommendations before attempting again:

1. Build the Boot Configuration Data Store- preferably from an Installation Media.

2. See if there are BIOS updates available from the manufacturer.

I don't know which step out of those above actually fixed the problem - but the fact is - I'm running 1903 now ))
