Windows 10: [Solved] Windows Cannot Install Required Files (0x8007025D) - known working USB key & 2...

I've seen this problem raised a few times in these forums with answers ranging from: check your hard drive, check your RAM, make sure your media is good. I thought I'd mention the very simple solution that worked for me since it doesn't seem to be in a lot of the other search results for this error.


[The solution was switching the BIOS from Legacy to UEFI mode]


In this particular case I was working on an Acer Aspire V3 731-4823 laptop for someone. When I attempted to install Windows 10 it would always crash with the 0x8007025D error. I tried a couple of different install media (which haven't had an issue on other systems) and still ran into the same issue. I looked through the BIOS and noticed it was set to Legacy mode. The moment I switched it to UEFI the installation worked flawlessly. If you're running into this error I'd take a 3 step approach:


1. make sure your BIOS is set to UEFI

2. make sure your install media is good

3. make sure the destination drive is good


If you have a "live" Linux USB key you can check the SMART data on a hard drive using a program called gsmartcontrol (or if you prefer terminal just smartcontrol)


Hope this helps someone as the Legacy to UEFI switch was all it took for us to get this working.

Hello Everyone,

I just assembled a new pc with the following config:

- i3 8100 CPU
- 8 GB DDR4 RAM
- MSI H310M PRO-VH
- WD 120 GB SSD

I have another Windows 7 pc from where I created a bootable Windows 10 USB. I used Windows Media Creation tool. Then I started installing windows on the new pc and in the second step it gave an error 0x8007025d. The error text is Windows cannot install required files. Make sure all the files required for installation are available.

What should I do ? I tried re-downloading iso using that tool and gave one more shot but it did not work.

Installing windows off of a USB stick

Step By Step from vista:
From admin cmd prompt

1. diskpart
1a. list disk
2. select disk 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
3. clean
4. create partition primary
5. select partition 1 (replace 1 with your usb drive)
6. active
7. format fs=fat32
8. assign
9. exit

Copy Windows Vista's DVD ROM content to the Flash Drive

xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ (d being your vista cd and e being your usb stick)

And that's it, boot off your usb disk
