Windows 10: Some firefox problems

Sorry for the late response, but I did some testing with cyberfox without addons and it works fine, just like FF works fine without addons. I couldn't find my addons for cyberfox so I have no idea how well it runs with addons installed. The issue with lag and stuttering is still in FF and its annoying. The only solution I have found is to restart FF without addons which seems to make the lag go away, but its not a very good solution because i need my addons.

 

to a certainextent yes, but FF seems to be very slowly improving. FF was my default, then back ti IE, which was worse, so now I am trialing Vivaldi, so far so good

 

I haven't seen any major improvements for the past many months regarding lag. I update FF but the lag issue is still there unless I restart without addons. It's really annoying. I'm not even using that many addons.

 

Have you tried a standard add-ons check -

Remove all add-ons - check the lag (and I do mean Remove not disable)

Load an add-on that you like to use and check the lag
remove the add-on and load another preferred Add-on
Repeat this with all add on's

If you find a single add-on that always and exclusively causes issues then you should look for and use an alternative for the faulty item

If no single Add-on is causing visible lag then you will need to start testing the add-ons in pairs and other multiples which may take a while but is the only way to be certain of what is causing the issue

 

Cyberfox will not be updated anymore since FF Quantum was released. However as cyberfox worked on your machine it suggests that the problem is with firefox or profile and not a problem with your hardware.
You should really make a backup copy of your FF profile:

• Press
  
  [Windows key+R] on the keyboard. A Run dialog will open.
• Type in:
  %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\

Or else navigate to:

C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>.

backcup these two: (Profiles folder and Profiles.ini file) to an external drive. Then disconnect the external drive.
AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\
AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles.ini

Get a copy of GeekUninstaller and run it. https://geekuninstaller.com

Find Firefox in the list of programs and double click it.
Choose yes when deleting profile data.
Allow it to scan for leftovers.
From the results list delete everything directly related to the Firefox Program installation or application data.

Reboot when finished.

Run Cccleaner if you've got a copy. Check here for Firefox leftovers and delete if found:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
Press the [Windows key+R] to open a Run dialog, type in %APPDATA%\Mozilla\ and click OK to open the Mozilla folder, then delete the Firefox folder if found.

Reboot.

Download a fresh copy of firefox and install it.

 

That is almost like Opera.. I tried Opera once and it took over my machine--No More. Firefox Quantum is for me.

One could check and see if the add-on's they have for Firefox are still offered.
Mozilla has stopped offering many add-on's because they don't meet the new standards for Firefox Quantum.
If the older add-on's were 'Exported' from a older Firefox they may not still work.

This is only a suggestion on my part. It may or may not help with your problem.

Will try it and come back with the results. But I can almost already say that its adguard causing most of the lag.

hello from a wet cyprus! JW: Vivaldi is by the same people who did opera but they claim better things; I think they may be right. I binned opera a few weeks ago because it did something unknown now to the pc went onto FF, Quantum then IE then Vivaldi. Quamtum is still in the pc at home but not default. Vivaldi is running the show at present, seems to be doing nicely. Not yet introduced Vivaldi this this laptop, may do later on today.

 

Ok, so i did some testing to solve the lag. I disabled new tab override first, and then video downloader professional and google image search, didn't solve the problem. I then disabled adguard blocker, helped a little bit but it was still laggy. I restarted FF without addons, that helped a lot, but it didn't completely solve the problem with lag. Strange.

Calender, should i download firefox quantum or just the regular firefox?

 

Same version as you are running now. If it's an old version you can update once it's fixed.

 

Well i used geekuninstaller to get rid of firefox, cleaned with ccleaner, downloaded the latest firefox (couldn't figure out how to get the exact same version as i had) and installed my addons, so lets see how it goes.

P.S how do you change what the new tab shows? I want it to show google. I have been using an add on so far, but i feel like its ridicilious to have an addons installed just because you want to change a basic feature like that.
