Windows 10: some picture icons aren't showing up and it's driving me nuts

when i say some i mean like 80% of my files? only pictures that i have recently downloaded/made are showing their icons. and it used to be mainly photos that i had moved from my old laptop onto this new one that weren't working, then i tried a bunch of fixes online and i guess one of them made it 10 times worse. it used to be around 50% of my files but now it's like 80%. Please help. I've tried ticking all the little boxes in the advanced settings everywhere and none of it has done anything, i've tried deleting all the iconcache files and even thumbnail cache files because the first one didn't work. didn't do anything. I've ignored this annoying problem ever since i got this laptop but it's so frustrating. I just want to be able to see what pictures are without having to open them.

Icons from apps aren´t displayed correctly






The native apps from the system are all showing this strange square instead of the normal icons. Please help resolve this problem. Thanks

Do the apps work fine apart form the icons not displaying correctly? If so I would suggest you to run an SFC scan and check if it helps. If the issue persists you may run DISM command and check.

Follow this steps:

    Press Windows+X.
    
  • 
    Click on Command Prompt (Admin).
    
  • 
    Type the command SFC /SCANNOW and
    DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and hit
    Enter.

Picture icons not showing in Windows10

I have a brand new HP laptop with Windows 10. The picture icons in File Explorer are not showing. If I change to a different size icon, sometimes 1 or 2 pictures will show. If I change again to another size icon, a couple different icons will show - never
the same as the previous size.

I have followed suggestions I found online.

One suggestion to do a disk cleanup worked, then the next day, the icons were gone again.

Can anybody help me?
