  1. Sound issues after switching Power Supply Unit

    Hi all,

I had problems with my PC freezing and crashing several times in about 15-30 minutes after a cold boot.

After several attempts to solve the issue (checking RAM voltage/frequency, flashing BIOS to newest versions) I thought maybe my 450W PSU was insufficient, so I replaced it with a 650W version. This solved my crashing issues.

    But,

After booting the PC, everything was working fine. Until I played some music. I did have sound, but my 5.1 speakerset didn't sound right (no bass, crackling sound). As this had happend several times before after certain Windows updates, I knew this would be solved by changing settings in "room corrections" and "sound Effects" tabs in the Realtek HD Audio Manager (for on-board sound of my Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev 2.0) motherboard) to my preset values, and everything would be fixed...

    But these tabs were missing.

After spending a whole evening - updating drivers, installing previous versions, changing sound settings, etc. - I gave up and ordered a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX sound card.

After installing the sound card, I now have no sound at all. I even get an error trying to play the test sounds.

Does anyone have any idea what is wrong?

I did investigate what could be the issue/fix on the internet and i found some doubtful things:

    1. In the playback devices list, I now only have Speakers (showing disabled and disconnected devices). The controller is "Sound Blaster Audigy Fx", but when I click properties the location is: "Location 1 (internal High Definition Audio-bus)": (Dutch version of Windows) Sound issues after switching Power Supply Unit c7ee2924-6041-474d-bc97-9df8de6e7453?upload=true.png In the device manager, the "Speakers (Sound Blaster Audigy Fx)" location is "on Sound Blaster Audigy Fx". So that is different. Sound issues after switching Power Supply Unit 669868ac-5b13-403f-b86f-c1ff8d807c12?upload=true.png
(Disabled Realtek High Definition Audio to see if that would fix things...)
    2. I read on the internet that updating the driver could help. I would have to go to Device Manager > Speakers > Update driver > Search for driver software on my computer > Choose from list of drivers on my computer > High Definition Audio device.
The problem is, i can't choose that driver. I only have two options:
      - General Software solution;
      - Audio-Endpoint (Current driver)

I personally suspect that the missing "High Definition Audio device" is what is causing the problem. But i don't know how to fix this.

    Kind regards,

I need advice for power supply .....

I would suggest looking through this list its quite extensive but the lemon list is far from complete I would bet I,ve used antec, corsair evga, seasonic and I refuse to cheap out on a power supply.. I figure and rightly so If I.m spending some serious money on hardware last place I" skimping on is a power supply A bad supply or cheaply made unit can cost you way more once it fails then it would have if you bought a decent one in the beginning.. Do NOT skimp on power supplys

    Hi Mikky,

To get better clarity on the issue, kindly answer the questions below:

    • Have you installed any software or programs on your computer prior to this issue?
    • What was the last thing you have done on your computer before this issue happened?
Since this issue occurs every time you connect or disconnect the computer to the power supply, we suggest you run the Power troubleshooter. To do this, follow the steps below:

    • On the Start menu, type Troubleshooting.
    • On the left-side, click View all.

    Power supply unit

Thanks everyone for the reply, I went to the shop and find out that my motherboard power supply is 6 pins while the diy power supply is 14 pins, what a disappointment. Is there any 14 pins to 6 pims convertor I can use for my motherboard ?
