  1. Speaker and headphone output device recognized as the same?

Hi, I'm not sure how to explain this problem. Basically, the headphones are working fine, the microphone attached to the headphone works fine, but the volume for both speaker and headphones are the same. What's more, when I check the audio devices, only the speaker appears... which means the headphones aren't recognized as a separate device.

Now, this has only been happening for like two days, meaning some update broke it, but I can't figure out why, or how do I stop updates from breaking the sound.

My audio driver is Realtek High Definition Audio, by the way.

  2. Headphones recognized as Speakers...

    Hi Ahri,

Having your headphones recognized as speaker when plugged in at the back of your PC could be the reason why the audio is low. To help us isolate the problem, we suggest running first the audio troubleshooter from the link Fix
    sound problems
    .

In case the issue persists, then let's remap or retask your Realtek audio jack and see if it addresses the issue. To do that, follow the steps below:

    • Open the Realtek HD Audio Manager.
    • In the back panel, right click the option where your headphone is connected.
    • Choose the option Connector Retasking, then select Headphone.

Feel free to update us with the result so we can further assist you.

    Regards.

In that case, please verify if your headphone is set as the Default Communication Device. If it's set as the Default Devices, then let's make it as the Default Communication Device and see if this addresses the issue. Please follow the steps below:

    • Right-click the speaker icon on your System Tray, then click Sounds.
    • Click the Recording tab.
    • Right-click your headphone and set it as the Default Communication Device.
    • Click Apply, then OK.

Let us know how it goes.
