Windows 10: Square around wifi symbol

This seems odd, but I suddenly notice I have squares around the wifi symbols when I open the network tray in the bottom right corner. See attached.

Symbols replaced by squares

I have Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit.

Certain symbols on programs are being shown as squares.

Here is one example:





NOTE: The ".mp5" file is just a .png file whose extension I changed to show that window, but it happens with every other file type. It's meant have a check mark, not that square.

Another one is this:





Those are meant to be the controls on the Films & TV app.

Other arrows in other apps are also shown as squares.

I ran the Windows apps troubleshooter
(this one) but there were no problems detected that were related to it.

There are no other users in the laptop beside my account, but I also made a new user account and the symbols are still incorrect there.

Strange symbol on E61

I have a symbol on the screen that I can't find listed in pages 18 or 19 or Nokia manual.

It's on the main screen, next to the "bluetooth " symbol - underneath the date/ battery line. It looks like a square bracket [ - on it's back, with an arrow pointing up out of the bracket.

Any clues?
