I am replacing a 2.5" hard drive with an SSD in a laptop. The existing bracket is damaged so I need a replacement. I can't find one anywhere online, it's one of those with two thin metal sides and a plastic back. Any idea where I could get one?

    installing SSD w/o a mounting bracket ?!

If there are four screws in other drives like DVD or hard drive (in general all these drives use the same size of screw), you could always use one from each of these to attach
the bracket to the SSD . . .

My serviceman told me there are four screws holding firmly SSD yet, brackets are not inside the casing, or else, I really am crazy. He says not to worry, not one bit, so this suggestion of
yours, although it sounds great, it appears, it isn't really necessary. Tell me that I am wrong. I dare you. I double dare you. Tell me that I am wrong. I myself know about computers nothing really, excepting to click and play. Still, being the best poet of
this century, who types on a computer to compensate for my bad memory having i.e. spellcheck in mind, with competition being not much since most if not all of the greatest poets died long time ago, I reckon, I too have a distinguished value.

    installing SSD w/o a mounting bracket ?!

OK, for safety sake the drive should be in some way held firm into the casing. this is usually done with the mounting bracket. However as long as it is attached with screws, it should be OK.

While there are no moving parts in an SSD drive, if you move your case around and the SSD is not attached, it can bounce around and crack the casing of the SSD . . .
