    SSD improvement after Win 10 1809 update (128Gb Samsung 840 Pro ).

I run a 2008(?) Compaq nc6320 Intel Mobile Core 2 Duo T5600 @ 1.83GHz with 2Gb DDR2 memory and until recently it was not updating from Win 10 (64 Bit) 1703 to 1809 but this weekend after a very long update process, it has finally updated fully to 1809 build 17763.475.

First thing I noticed was that the system seemed a little faster, I decided to run Crytal Mark 6 and the results are odd, as my previous attempt at under Win10 1703 optimising the Samsung SSD using their Magician software gained nothing.

    Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 138.010 MB/s
    Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 132.927 MB/s
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 101.949 MB/s [ 24889.9 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 82.113 MB/s [ 20047.1 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 87.800 MB/s [ 21435.5 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 50.571 MB/s [ 12346.4 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 16.754 MB/s [ 4090.3 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 28.731 MB/s [ 7014.4 IOPS]

    Test : 1024 MiB [C: 73.3% (87.0/118.7 GiB)] (x5) [Interval=5 sec]
    Date : 2018/05/05 1:20:50
    OS : Windows 10 Professional [10.0 Build 17134] (x64)

The numbers even went down after optimising but after today's update see the result below

    Sequential Read (Q= 32,T= 1) : 486.897 MB/s
    Sequential Write (Q= 32,T= 1) : 505.031 MB/s
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 136.160 MB/s [ 33242.2 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 8,T= 8) : 102.090 MB/s [ 24924.3 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 112.022 MB/s [ 27349.1 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 32,T= 1) : 82.458 MB/s [ 20131.3 IOPS]
    Random Read 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 32.038 MB/s [ 7821.8 IOPS]
    Random Write 4KiB (Q= 1,T= 1) : 27.951 MB/s [ 6824.0 IOPS]

    Test : 1024 MiB [C: 83.4% (99.0/118.7 GiB)] (x5) [Interval=5 sec]
    Date : 2019/05/05 13:17:21
    OS : Windows 10 Professional [10.0 Build 17763] (x64)

This is the best performance I've had with this SSD since installing it with Win 08 in April 2013 !!! This is an old machine and I have no idea what has happened, note the SATA interface is SATA 2 I think (SATA 400/600). Does any one know what's changed with SSD handling on legacy hardware ?

    :)

    Samsung 840 Non-Pro SSD 250 GB

I tend to agree. Their retail image has improved since the 840 and 840 Pro were released and I think they are on the right track.
