    SSD Not Booting Automatically

My SSD drive with Windows 10 Pro on it stopped automatically booting when turning on my computer a few days ago. All I can remember is that I installed MS-Office 2013 Professional Plus the night before. Everything was working normally until I tried to start my computer the next morning. Let me explain. When starting my computer, the ASUS bios post screen comes up and stays that way until I press DEL or F2. After a few minutes the bios setup screen comes up. The drive is shown properly. I go into the Boot Manager and physically select my boot drive, and then, Windows 10 starts and operates normally.

This is a home-built computer that has worked normally since May. It uses an ASUS 2170-K motherboard with bios version 3301 (the latest). My boot drive is a Samsung SSD; 850 EVO 2 (250GB). My operating system is Windows 10 Pro, version 1709, os build 16299.248.

I double-checked the bios and reinstalled the firmware (3301) from the ASUS site. The problem still exists. Could it be that the boot record or UEFI (?) may have gotten damaged?

I'd appreciate any help here. This has been a great system since it was first built. Could the damage have been malicious? Malwarebytes came up clean and Bitdefender shows no problems.

    Thanks! Martin

    :)

  2. Automatic System Repair.

    Hello,

I am trying to install the Samsung 960Evo SSD on my laptop for that i followed following steps:

    1. Mount SSd.

    2. Clone OS from hdd hdd to ssd using samsung migration software.

3.At this point i have os on both disks.

    4. Now i unplugged hdd from laptop motherboard.

    5. Then i boot the laptop. So it automatically booted from ssd.

6.now i plugged again in hdd and then try to boot it but it booted from hdd itself automatically.

    7. After that i chose booting option by ssd and then i format my hdd.

    8. But this time pc didnt boot from ssd but trying to boot from hdd. But that disk is empty.

So it displayed this everytime i try to boot it displayes"Automatic System Repair".

Ive tried some Youtube videos tricks like entering commands in command prompt. The aim was to make ssd a bootable drive and but the command prompt shows some files are missing to ssd a bootable drive.

    Please help.

Tell me what should i do.

  3. Windows 10 Boot Error: A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. HELP!!!

Thanks for the help - I've just fixed the issue.

My windows 10 is installed on an SSD - all I had to do was to boot the pc without the SSD connected (essentially un-installing the drive) and it automatically booted from the disk.

    Thanks again!

Thank you for the information Ed. I ran the Macrium repair as prescribed. I'm not really sure if it corrected the issue though. Now, when starting the computer, it sits at the ASUS Bios screen (sorry for orientation) for almost exactly 5 minutes and then Windows 10 boots/starts normally.

I need to get to the bottom of the long pause. I changed the bios display time to 3 seconds, but it made no difference. So, getting back to my original post; I'm not really sure if Windows would boot at all, or I just didn't wait long enough.

    Thoughts?

If it bootok once selected it would suggest ther eis no problem with the drive or booting. The problem is in the bios does it save that you have set the drive as boot drive its worth trying a new cmos battery. Is that the only drive and is it set to port 0

    You didntanswer
does the bios remember the boot order?
    Is it on port 0
    is it the only drive

If you have any other drive disconnect include dvd and see if it boots ok then
