SSD System + HDD User ~ Linked folder not work with Windows 10 anymore

    Hello.

    SSDs are mostly to small.
And my profile-folder is mostly to big and to heavy usage for a SSD.

So I just started to link/junction my profile-polder to my second Disk, a HDD with some TB. Enought to work. SSD System + HDD User ~ Linked folder not work with Windows 10 anymore :)

Code: Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.16299.19] (c) 2017 Microsoft Corporation. C:\WINDOWS\system32>C: C:\WINDOWS\system32>cd \Users [ Now I use FastCopy to Clone my Data-Profile from my SSD to HDD with all permission Setting (ACL). ] C:\Users>ren Data Data-orginal C:\Users>junction Data Z:\Users\Data Junction v1.07 - Creates and lists directory links Copyright (C) 2005-2016 Mark Russinovich Sysinternals - www.sysinternals.com Created: C:\Users\Data Targetted at: Z:\Users\Data C:\Users>[/quote] But the problem is: this profile not work. After log-in, the taskbar and startmenu get into stuck. Startmenu not open and after some minutes, windows (little blue dialog) force me to logoff again.

When I look into the task manager, I see backgroundTaskHost.exe constantly restarting. (endless, every second)

I never had this problem before.

Any idea why I get this problem now? And how I can maybe prevent this stuck/hang/restarting-bug.

At this time there is only one alternative: to link every folder in profile to hdd-folder. But that is a lot administrative work and I can't link the AppData folder (If I link this folder > restart-bug start again). A folder who have a lot of write-operation and so very heavy use my SSD. (Especialy while browsing or temp-file-operation who also often go into a lot of GBs)

    :)

  2. Tried moving User system folders off SSD onto secondary HDD - created big mess - how to fix?

To restore the User system folders to their default locations on the primary SSD, I used the batch files written by Shawn Brink on Windows Ten Forums:

How to Restore Default Location of Your Personal Folders in Windows 10

There is a batch file for each folder, e.g. there is a batch file named "Restore_Music_Default_Location.bat" to relocate the Music folder back onto the primary drive. The batch files work by writing new registry entries. In my case, this worked. I am back
to the original situation where the user system folders are located on the SSD.

However I still need to find a correct method to move them onto the HDD.

  3. Conversion to Windows 10

I converted from Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Professional. I then migrated Windows 10 from an HDD to an SSD. I kept the HDD for data files. I recently had to reinstall Windows 10 clean, which cleaned everything from the SSD. There is a system
Volume Information folder on the SSD and it is about 6gb. I still have a System Volume Information folder on the HDD and it is 48gb. I also keep the Window Image Backup on the HDD and it appears to be in its own folder (WindowsImageBackup) and is 26gb. The
apps (programs) are kept on the SSD along with the operating system. Can I delete the System Volume Information folder from the HDD? I feel it is a leftover from when the system was migrated over to the SSD from the HDD. Any assistance is appreciated.

    Hello.

Thanks. Nice Idea. But for me a bit to late. It's already installed.
And I use also a profile on SSD (root-Account) for setup or upgrades of Windows so I can also remove the HDD without problem.

I need one profile only on HDD, not all of them.

It's a pitty. It was soooo easy in the past. I'm more and more sure, it's just contana or the index-search of windows.

Maybe I should try to disable both together?

I found this way now... How To | How To Move A User Profile To Another Drive or Partition In Windows - YouTube
...and will try it soon, too. Maybe that helps to solves this problem.

    Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
    ProfilesDirectory > %SystemDrive%\Users

It's just a pitty that MS have so much incompatibility Linked Folders. I hope a lot, they discontinue there C:\ some day and go the UNIX-Way too.
