  1. SSD to SATA via USB not showing on windows 10

Hello, I did solve the problem, and I am posting because I saw many forums with the same issue and nobody was telling the correct way to solve it.

    Background:

The computer is a laptop, the original HD is inside the laptop and it is a 2.5", normal laptop SATA connector with an HDD.

The new disk is an SSD disk by Kingson 240GB and in perfect working order and NEW

The New disk and interface cable (USB to SATA) is working as evidenced by working on an Xbox One (tested)

    Issue

When I connect the new interface into any laptop, the laptop emits the USB pluged bip and shows next to the clock that there is a Disk attached to the system, perhaps when I search for it on the explorer I cannot see it. What could be the problem?

    1. Interface not working
      1. Tested and the interface is working
    2. Computer not able to recognize the interface disk
      1. Tested in 3 laptops with windows 10 and all of then do not recognize
    3. A driver issue?
      1. The driver tested and found to be in working condition
    4. A Configuration Issue?
      1. This is where I found the problem

The problem is that the driver is NEW and had no partition, which is good for Xbox-One, but bad for the windows. In order to see the drivcer, it has to have a partition and a letter assigned.

    Solution

Format the driver to have a partition and letter then format to have an NTFS readable partition.

    How to do it

I went to the "DISK MANAGEMENT", type it on the windows search bar for Cortana or similar, you will see your older driver, the one on the computer as a primary, disk0 and C, and a second disk without any partition. So now you can click on the new disk and create a partition, format to NTFS and windows readable, assign a letter for it. If you need more help regarding the Disk Management, please look online, plenty of websites. After it conclude the formating, around 30 seconds, you will be able to see the new hard drive on the windows explorer, if not, then restart the computer it will show up there. You can see the driver on disk management as a partition drive with a letter, usually D for a laptop

    From there

From this point on, you can download a cloning program, usually, cost $50.00 and clone your original HDD into the SDD, it will take about 2 hours for a 250GB HDD to transfer to a 250GB SDD. Any HDD -> SSD via USB/Sata cable is capable of the same transfer.

I hope you like this tutorial and you can help many people too.

    SATA HDD recognised as SSD

Hi. My SATA HDD is recognised as a SSD and Windows 10 will not perform defragmentation on it as a result; which I appreciate. I've tried many of the prescribed procedures mentioned on forums but to no effect. I'm pretty convinced that the problem lies
in the fact I have installed a SSD in my machine. Windows is recognising the correct size of my SATA HDD however and the SSD isn't showing up quite rightly as its Linux formatted. Using a third party defragmentation program exactly the same problem occurs,
however I was able to defragment my C drive using it as it just warned against it and didn't prohibit me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  3. Windows 10 USB boot

Hi there, am not a windows 10 expert. I have a pc in the bedroom on windows 10, I messed up the bootloader trying to fix the xp on that system.

System wont boot, trying to repair via win 10 usb installer.

Downloaded the media creation tool to install windows 10 installer on usb stick. Not compatible with a host of usb sticks I have. Tried the usb sticks that others use, but I think they use rufus; as the media creation tool by win 10 does not detect the usb stick.

So quick question, the win10 machine i am trying to repair the bootloader is a win7 upgraded to win10.
If i were to use the usb win10 installer to "repair installation" does the version of the iso downloaded via the media creation tool matter?

    There is three options:
    Windows 10
    Windows 10 Home
    Windows 10 N

Also is there a step by step instead of using rufus as I want to try an alternative method of creating a usb win 10 installer. Preferably with more compatibility.

    System is a asus sabertooth 990 (r2?) with AMD phenom X 6.

Also is there any other software I can load onto the usb that can repair the bootloader easily?
That would be the ideal alternative. Thanks

    SATA HDD recognised as SSD

Just occurred to me. Could it be that the primary boot drive is the Linux SSD. I've got a feeling this could

be the problem. I'm not sure how to configure Windows 10 to boot from the SATA HDD. I will try reinstalling the drivers and look into the BIOS but would appreciate your take on my suggestion.
