Windows 10: SSD worth it?

Discus and support SSD worth it? in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; The 1TB Mushkin is $250. I have several Mushkins. They are greart SSDs.     Hi there.

    I wouldn't say that. As James Bond re-iterated : "Never say Never"-- SSD's great for OS / scratch files such as Photoshop etc - but would you really want to have several TB of SSD's for things like multi-media files / NAS servers etc.

    For things like NAS / robust file sharing Green / Red 4TB WD (or larger) 6 Gb/s HDD's are just fine -- you don't want SSD's either in a RAID config

    To store the OS on -- absolutely 100% SSD all the way. SSD's particularly good for mainly reads - I wouldn't use them for robust multi-user access writes. There's no advantage in using them either for media serving --just hugely expensive when a decent 4 or even 6TB HDD would be just as efficient and hugely cheaper. Until a 12 TB SSD storage array is roughly the same price as 2 X 6TB or 3 X 4TB HDD's and as robust I'll wait on that. I re-iterate though all my OS'es and applications whether Windows or Linux are stored on SSD's.

    jimbo, I don'y have the kind of requirements that you describe. A 1TB disk can probably hold all my data for the rest of my life.

    Hi there

    I was just mentioning cases where SSD makes 100% sense and cases where iy doesn't buy you anything other than empty your wallet.

    Loads of people DO have NAS etc so I was just saying - fine for the OS but not for the data pools.

    Friend I always help out and get parts from built me this box for win 10 with a 120 gig ssd, tiny, quiet, and fast. We added a 500 gig HD to hold all my data that doesn't need to load super fast and I try to keep non critical large files to the 500, like my video captures seeing how I just added Media center to it, the hacked 8.1 version I think. Works fine with a little tweaking so far.
    I transferred over some of my drives from my win7 box and just left the critical 500 gig server grade boot drive and the few that most of the extra programs are tied into. Been running WMC on that box for years so left it in place to continue that task till I figured out if WMC will work and be stable on the new build.
    So for now I have 4 HD's mostly 500 gig, one new one, the rest from the old box with their files intact, smallest is a 320. I have several large external USB drives mapped onto the network, and some of the drives from the other box are mapped and shared as well so lots of storage online.
    Been slowly figuring out network and driver issues and tweaking things the way I want but yep, once it's past the POST screen stuff 10 comes up real fast with the ssd. Hoping to eventually get a bigger one so some of the programs I use a lot can live on it but so far with the OS and some of my favorite programs it's got 79 gig free of 118.
    The new 500 data drive holds my recorded TV folder and the bigger stuff and still has 455 free of 465 that will float up and down as stuff gets recorded then edited and transferred to the really gig externals I use, then I use Plex and a Android Media player to watch things as I feel like it no matter which box originally captured it. Keep watching for deals and jump in when you see the size and price that makes you happy.
