Windows 10: SSD worth it?

Discus and support SSD worth it? in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; OK, its done. running off the SSD now. A few little issues along the way but sorted out easily enough.     SSD worth it?

    I originally tried to use the backup and restore method but it failed with a space error. I guess this is because it tried to restore the recovery partition too and the space was close? Should have been plenty but regardless, it failed.

    Next try was using the Migrate OS wizard in Mini Tool Partition Wizard 9. This went perfectly, took about an hour. It even took the drive letter off my original HD so I had no trouble booting and formatting the original for data uses.

    Boot time is significantly faster. Hard to tell with other stuff, original HD was pretty fast itself. I'll learn more as time goes by and I get things settled and optimized. Haven't moved my user files yet but expect I will.

    As far as moving user files, docs, pics, etc, off the SSD to a regular drive, are the advantages really worth it? At this time I'm using less than half of the SSD, space not currently an issue. Should I bother with it or just leave well enough alone?

    You can of course move other files to the SSD. Just make sure you leave appr. 20% of the SSD free - for wear leveling.

    I keep everything on my SSD I use my 2nd internal drive for storage, backups, and not much else. Unless you have a lot of games then you might want them on the 2nd drive. User files, pic's,doc's......all that I keep on my C-drive (SSD) Most of us do.

    Hi there

    Remember the Old Engineer's adage "If it ain't broke Don't Fix It". Still good advice.

    You can always move data later if you need to.

    I tend to move data etc for other reasons --having the OS / applications on its own SSD / partition makes the whole OS easier to restore / backup without having to worry about Multi-media files / other data etc.

    I second the motion. I do this also. Makes restoring a disk image very easy and much faster.
