Classic shell will be my menu of choice. It is highly configurable, looks how you want it too and tweaks the shell too. It is also free but IMHO is better than all the others. I use classic shell on Windows 7 and 8 .1 to get the look I like. On Windows 10 I am just using the native start menu so I can see what is going on. Once Windows 10 is finalized in 2026 I will use Classic Shell.

I don't think the start screen in Windows 8 was the problem, what caused most people grief was not having the Windows 7 style menu. For me I think Windows 8 start screen is perfect for metro, charms bar and all.

I really prefer Windows 8 with a Windows 7 style menu over the Windows 10 interface, why not simply let people choose the way they want to use the machine? All of the elements are still there, just hidden. From reading this forum, it is quite obvious that everyone has their own preferences.

Yes, that goes along with the idea of choice and not one person having their way. *Wink

Perhaps my observation was a little overblown.
My point was merely - give it a chance, we don't even know what MS's final offering will be.

    Pretty much a bull's eye.

Personally, if I use Win10, I won't install any 3rd party app. I'll just remove every "live" titles and put the usual shortcuts there. On top of that, I find that stardock softwares tend to be resource hugs and system breaking (introduces glitches). So, big fat no.

  7. Referring to the beginning builds to the current one I don't see Microsoft as knowing where the heck the final will be
They were closer at 9878 then now or even 9841 was closer,
They've made a mockery of the start menu,
Minus 26 letters and it might be okay.
Make it ten times narrower or at least where the outside icon is and that might pass :/
Put everything in the control panel.
Get rid of all webcrap suggestions or at least give that choice on install.

I've been trying to use the start menu's in each build, but am not seeing much progress. I prefer the W7 menu including the search that only searches my computer. I don't need the "everywhere" search.

Unless MS comes up with something better, I will be going back to Classic Shell.

You could still use 'Search' from the WinX Menu.

I would never install junk like that to gum up my system.

I think if people want to use Windows 7 they should keep using it.

I hated WIndows XP and Windows 7. I loved Windows 8 and 8.1.

The jury isn't in yet on 10, but I feel like Microsoft keeps getting dragged backwards. I want them to go forward.

It reeks of a company with only one product desperately trying to stay relevant when its obsolete.

Sort of like car dealer associations suing to keep Tesla from selling cars online. *Tongue

Well, everyone is free to love or hate anything, but in my humble opinion XP and 7 were excellent operating systems. The point is that we need to choose between following the tech trend or become obsolete.
