Windows 10: Start and Settings search do not work

Hi,


I have just reset my computer, and since the reset my search bars do not work properly. I cannot find apps that are installed in the search, despite them being in the app list, nor can I find settings in the settings search.


I have:

• Run the troubleshooter
• Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
• Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
• Run DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Cleanupimage
• Run sfc /scannow
• Rebuilt the index
• Reinstalled the start menu, Cortana and Settings
• Changed language packs

And none of these have worked. After creating another user, the search works fine for that user, it is just the admin account that does not work correctly.


I would rather avoid having to do a reinstall as I am on the latest Windows Insider fast ring build 19536, and as such cannot use the insider ISO files 19035 available to do an in-place upgrade, without losing apps and files as I kept my files in the last reset and had just installed all my apps when I noticed this issue.


Is there anything that can be done to repair the start menu since other users don't show the same issue?

Edge Search Does Not Permit Change of Region


I got these suggestions from the Microsoft Community forum.No. 1 worked for me:

Thank you for posting the query on Microsoft Community. I am glad to assist you on this.
We have reproduce the issue here and we are able to access non-regional search for google using Microsoft Edge.
I would suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.
Step 1:
Clear browsing data option of Microsoft Edge and check if you face the issue. To do so perform the steps below.

1. Click on the More actions icon next to the feedback icon present on top right corner of the Project Spartan homepage.
2. Select Settings and click on Choose what to clear.
3. Check the boxes Browsing history, Cookies and saved website data and Cached data and files and click on Clear.

Step 2:
I suggest you to create a new user account and check if the issue occurs.

1. Go to Settings.
2. Choose Accounts and then select Family and other users.
3. Select add someone else on this PC.
4. Enter a user name and hit next.
5. Click on Finish.
6. Sign out from the current Account and Log into the new account.

Step 3:
It could also happen because of network issue. I suggest you to try with different network connection and check if it helps.

 

Start menu Search can't click on search results leading to Settings pages + Settings search results not loading

  3. Select View All option and select the Search

Method 1

If no corrupted system files were found in the previous state or were irrecoverable, then I suggest you to try the following steps to deploy the DISM command lines:

  Press Windows key + X.

  Click command prompt (Run as administrator).
  
• 
  In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type the following commands. Press Enter key after each command:
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth
  
  DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  
  Important: When you run this command, DISM uses Windows Update to provide the files that are required to fix corruptions.

  To close the Administrator: Command prompt window, type Exit, and then press Enter.

Method 2

Lets try to narrow down the issue, if the issue is at a specific user level.
I suggest you to check if the same issue occur when logged in through a different Local Administrator user account.



Follow the steps mentioned below:

• Assuming that you are already logged on to your user account in Windows 10, click the Start button.
• From the Start menu, click your name from the top of the left pane.
• From the displayed options click Sign out.
• From the login screen, click to the different user account you want to switch to.

However, if you do not have a separate user account, I suggest you to create another Local administrator user account by referring to the Microsoft article here: Set
up accounts.

Search service not working (windows 10 pro)

Method 1:

I suggest you to run the search and indexing troubleshooter.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start button and click on
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on the Indexing Options.
  
• 
  Click on the Troubleshoot search and indexing.
  

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 2:

I suggest you to start the Windows Search Service.

Follow the below steps:

    Press Windows key + R from the Keyboard.
    
  • 
    Type services.msc and hit Enter.
    
  • 
    Search for Windows Search.
    
  • 
    Double click on Windows Search and click on
    Start button.
    
  • 
    Click on the dropdown list and set the Startup type to
    Automatic.
    

If the issue persists then follow the below method.

Method 3:

I suggest you to manually select the location in the Indexing options and check.

Follow the below steps:

• 
  Right click on the Start button and select
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on Indexing Options and click on
  Modify button.
  
• 
  Under Change selected locations check mark all the locations.
  
• 
  Click on Ok and check if it works.
