Start Menu button right click menu fails

I have just upgraded to Win10 and most items on the "Power User Command Menu" do not work if the menu is accessed by right-clicking the Start Menu button on the Task Bar. The only items that do work are Search, Run, Shut down and Desktop. If the menu is accessed by the other means, the menu items work fine.

I've tried SFC and a day searching the web with no luck. Any ideas how to fix it?

The computer is a Toshiba laptop running an Intel® Core™ 2 Duo Processor T5500 with 4 Gb of memory. I don't know what the proper name for the "Power User Command Menu" may be, but that's the only way I've seen it referenced elsewhere in this forum.

    :)

Start Menu button right click menu fails

Download: Win+X Menu Editor for Windows 8
It's for Windows 8 but will work with Windows 10.
Right click and run as Admin. Click on little arrow->Restore Defaults then Click on Restart Explorer.

    Hello, T..G..

First, thank you for your thoughts. One thing I've found about the 7, 8, 10 forums: the people are great.

WinXEditor "restore defaults" didn't work. I also tried using it to add both a folder and file to the menu, but they didn't open either. Actually, I had little hope for WXE because of the nature of this Win+X problem.

I read that the Win+X menu is a reflection of the "C:\Users\Ron\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\WinX" folder structure. All of the files and shortcuts in those folders are where they are supposed to be AND they all work properly if opened from that location. This has to be something deeper.

One thought I had was that the problem may have to do with UAC and permissions because the files that tended to work were more-or-less "normal files" and the ones that didn't were more-or-less system or control related. Likely? More likely the wrong path.

    I will trudge on.

OPEN TIP: to anyone searching for Win10 install help. !Watch the dates of the posts! So many users were involved in the betas, over so long a period of time, and so many features changed, that many posts were generated that today are blind alleys. Also remember that a new OS may require new drivers and that the upgrade may not provide them all.

BTW Microsoft: I've tried three installs of Win10. One took 12 hours (including the download) and went smoothly. I abandoned the second after 5 days and shelved it until later. The third is this one and I now have over 20 hours in it. Only two more installs to go!

I don't know what to say. It works perfectly in my Windows 10 x64. Here's an example: I added a new group and put Utorrent & Snipping Tool and they show in my right click, then set it back to default.

EDIT: Open Admin Command Prompt, copy and paste the commands below then run:
    Dism.exe /online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup&dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth&sfc /scannow&pause

Start Menu button right click menu fails

UPDATE: I have disabled all shell extensions except MS's and the menu now works. Next I will try to isolate the culprit.

Thank you all for your comments. I will try them all if my current thought fails.

FOLLOW UP: The problem was an old ShellExtension that wasn't compatible with Win10. I uninstalled it and the menu now works fine.

Downloaded the free edition but it will not open? Comes down in a Zip file and the .exe is not executable because it has a period at the end of the .exe(.).

You probably selected a wrong link. There's no installer with this software, the content of the zip file as shown below, just unzip and run.

Interesting, this time your link took me to a different page than before, but as you say, I probably chose a wrong link?

Either way, still no results which is quite interesting.

Still no 'left' click results on the win 10 start button and no change on the 'right' click on the 'Task Bar'?

I have tried to run this and it almost completes the cycle but stops and reports that it cannot find the "source files"?

Could this be the same problem as we had in XP where SFC/scannow needed the i386 files in order to run.

Do I need to have these "source files" from Win 10 available on my hard drive?

    Thanks
