  1. Start Menu is not working

(Sorry if this is in the wrong location. I couldn't post it to the bsod forums because it only wants bsod) I recently installed Windows 10. I had this problem where explore.exe kept restarting. My friend had this problem too. He told me to create a new user. So I did. He also said to go to "c:\users\old user" and copy everything from there to save my stuff. It was about 50 gbs so I did folder by folder. When I goto Appdata, I copied everything from the old user onto the new one. But I accidentally deleted almost everything in Local. Now, the start menu isn't working and Windows Update isn't either. I do have a system restore from before I deleted it. Should I restore it?

As I am typing this, I am running sfc /scannow
Edit after ^^^: Got an error " Windows Resource Protection could not preforom the requested operation."
    Please help!

    :)

Start Menu is not working (Not responding/Critical Errors)

I cannot help but notice that the fix for a start button not working involves using the start button?! Commands can be run from the task manager File menu. Ctrl-Alt-Del to select Task Manager from the screen menu.

    Start Menu is not working

Hi Sammy, welcome to the Ten Forums.

There is a very good reason why Windows hides system folders C:\ProgramData and the %UserProfile%\Appdata by default, why they should remain hidden and why you should never copy them to another installation or, in case of the AppData and its subfolders not even to another user profile in the same installation.

The AppData and ProgramData folders basically have the same main function, they contain application specific data. The difference is that whereas the ProgramData folder contains the app data shared by every user, the AppData contains the user specific information.

Each Windows computer, each new installation has its own unique security identifier (SID). Each user profile on each computer also have the SID, see here the list of user profiles and their security identifiers on my computer (screenshot from the registry editor, click to enlarge):

A lot of the application data is tied to either the username or this SID. A fast way to get a totally screwed Windows is to copy AppData to another user profile. In general a good "rule of thumb" is never to copy AppData. Of course there are exceptions, for instance the profile folders for browsers like Chrome, Firefox and Opera can safely be copied from AppData\Local and AppData\Roaming to the same location on a new computer or another profile on the same computer. Kodi / XBMC is also a good example, its folders in AppData can be copied. However, these are only exceptions of the rule!

In my opinion you should start from beginning, reinstall.

I agree with Kari. Reinstall is probably the best thing you can do.
