Windows 10: Start menus & type to search

Thought I would show what Win10 Start menus can be (& do, soon*). The content is a wee bit different because, one is 1903 & the other is the latest Fast Track Insider Build. *With the IB can see Start typing to search. This reminds of Win8 when one could just type 'in mid-air' & it would go search after 2 or 3 characters. Well, hit Win (key) and just type. In the example, I hit Win & typed 'bananas'. Just an alternative to Win+S or going directly to Search; suppose does mean one could go without the Search icon on the taskbar, though, it's often nice to see the whole Search panel/window @ the onset, depending where you want to go @ that moment.

NB: The caveat here is to notice Start's Right Pane is gone

• When was the last time you are able to type on the search menu?
• Did you make any changes to your computer's configuration prior to the issue?

Let us try the methods below and observe.

Method 1: Run Start Menu Troubleshooter.

Run this Start Menu Troubleshooter to automatically fix problems with Start Menu.

Method 2: Run System File Checker and DISM commands.

System File Checker is a Windows utility that allow users to scan for and restore corruptions in Windows system files. Follow these steps for instructions:

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type this sfc /scannow and hit Enter.

If SFC did not find any violations it's still a good idea to run DISM Restorehealth. For instructions, please follow these steps:

• Open Command Prompt (Admin).
• Type this Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth and hit
  Enter.

Issues with accessing apps throuhg Start Menu and Search bar on windows10.

This issue might occur if some system files is corrupt.



To assist you better, please provided us the information below:

• Are you getting any error message when you click on Start Menu?

I suggest you to follow the steps provided in Microsoft Help Article about Start menu issues and also try to start Windows Search service. Check if it helps.



Step 1: I recommend you to refer to the suggestion provided in the Microsoft Help Article and check if it helps.

Step 2: I suggest you to try to start Windows Search services
and check if it helps.

1. Press Windows Key + R Key.

2. Type "services.msc" without the quotes and click on it.

3. Search for Windows Search.

4. Double click on it and under Startup type, select
Automatic.

5. Then click on Start button.


Note: If you are not able to change the Startup type, then continue starting the service by clicking on Start button.
