  1. Start Up menu is not working after update

    I tried updating to Windows 10 version 1903 and it wasn't successful. It said the error was "Potential Database error detected."

    The other day, my notebook wasn't able to shutdown properly because the battery got drained. I didn't know if it was updating or what but when I tried open it there was a black screen and I didn't know what to do so I restarted it by long pressing on the boot button. I think I did it thrice- I'm not sure. When I finally got through my desktop view, the start up menu was not working.

    I tried to follow the troubleshooting guide here but it didn't fix the problem. this is the error I encountered when I tried to access windows settings ( windows key + R then type "ms-settings:" )

  3. Start menu not working

    I found the following article, ran the suggested powershell command and my start menu is working again. Here it is as I found it:
    Go to Start menu button and right click on it. This will open the contextual menu, after which you need to select Command Prompt (Admin). Once Command Prompt is open, go ahead with the following steps.

    • Type and enter: Powershell
    • Type the following: Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}
