static IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address?

A machine running 64-bit win10 belongs to one WorkGroup, connects to the LAN via EtherNet for speed but it must be available via wifi also, so both connections are open.
For an Android device to access an app served by a webapp served on the win10 machine, the win10 machine needs a fixed IP address. The Android device seems to understand only IPv4 addresses, When the win10 machine's EtherNet connection is IPv6, it's apparently impossible to give it a static wifi IPv4 address.
    How do I solve this?

    :)

  2. "Your computer appears to be correctly configured, but the device or resource (DNS server) is not responding" cannot fix?

I'm on Windows 10 and i attempted to make a static ip address by messing with my ipv4 ip settings, and i'm guessing something went terribly wrong when i tried to change my ip because from there on out, i only had ipv6 connectivity and lost all connection
to ipv4. If i use ethernet, i can still use ipv4, it's only the wifi with my laptop only that isn't working appropriately.

I've attempted several things, resetting my router, restarting my router completely, using command prompts to flush and register my dns, and setting both the ip and dns options for ipv4 and ipv6 back to finding them automatically, but all these methods have
not workedstatic IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address? :(

  4. static IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address?

    Hi pzbrawl

Interesting. My adapter shows and IPv6 address and an IPv4 address. When you you go into the TCP/IPv4 properties is it just greyed out to prevent entering.

When you do an "ipconfig /all" command on your windows 10 machine does your adapter have an address for each protocol.

One thing you might be able to do to fool the system.

With your Windows 10 machine connected, enter your router and reserve an address based on the MAC of your Windows 10 machine. Then this address will always be saved for your Windows 10 machine ( so in essence it will be static). Usually there is a specific section in the router to do this. You open it, find device and click reserve. (might be slightly different on your device.)'

By the way what router do you have?

  6. Okay, that is different. We can all google. There is another thread like this just recently waiting for answer.

When you plug in, Ethernet, Windows is shutting off or disconnecting your wifi. In the old days this was a security requirement to prevent bad guys from using your device as a bridge. You can imagine being in a corporate network, past all the security requirements and then somebody connects to a strange wifi access point.

I'll see what I can find.

Edit 1: As I thought about this, you want your Android phone to connect directly to laptop like a hotspot. Can it not connect to wireless router and get to laptop?

    Yeah, that looks right.

    Yeah I can imagine that.

I don't need to imagine how annoying it is to have to live inside Windows limitations that cater to big corporations. Ugh. It's one of many such reasons we've beeen moving as much functionality as we can away from Microsoft to open source and Linux, as fast as we can.

    > you want your Android phone to connect directly to laptop like a hotspot.

No no, I just want a static IP available for wifi connection for an Android device on the LAN. When I try to set that static IP, I get spurious error messages from Windows about multiple gateways and other nonsense.

You asked about the router. It's old, a Netgear Genie wnr2000v3, we're not aspiring to rocket science here static IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address? :).

No no, I just want a static IP available for wifi connection for an Android device on the LAN.

This can be done by reserving on router. Once your android is connected open your router. In address bar 192.168.1.1

Unless you changed user name is admin, password is password.

Can't find reservation in manual. On my netgear I log in, click on Advance, Click on Setup, Click on Lan Setup, then click the little radio button beside the device I want to reserve. This means only this mac address get this ip address.

Turns out this router does not support that functionality, so I guess I need to upgrade the router. Thanks.

  13. static IPv4 wifi address while ethernet uses IPv6 address?

Sorry, I'm a little confused. If you are trying to set a static address on Android how does Windows respond?

My reserve solution was so Android phone gets reserved IP on Lan but in reading your problem statement it appears you want the Wifi on so the Android device can access the Windows 10 Pro machine directly without going through Lan.

Sorry for my confusion. How much of this have I got wrong.

    Thanks

Not that either. An android app knows names of machines on the network it finds itself on (eg, android apps Fing, ES File Explorer &c). A web browser (eg Chrome) running in an android device doesn't. So a webapp running in Chrome in an android needs a webapp served from a network device like this win10 machine to have a known IP address.

  15. Okay. I think I'm getting there. So you have to set an address in the chrome webapp and that address has to be a known one on the Lan where it can find info.

So you want to set a static ip address on the Windows 10 machine. A few posts back it was 192.168.1.42 on the wired connection.

So you just have to set this address to be static and you don't need the wireless on Win 10 Pro machine at all. Just a known address that doesn't change.

    Am I any closer?
