Still waiting for Windows 10 Upgrade.

    Hi,

It has been almost a month now since i have reserved my copy of windows 10. When i click on the icon all i get to see is "Your upgrade is reserved there's nothing you need to do right now". I reserved a copy on my brothers PC around 3 days ago and he's one is already downloaded and running. I have tried to check for updates a hundred times and there are no further updates available on my current windows 8 system, anyone got an idea why i still haven't received a notification for the download yet ?

    :)

  2. Still waiting for upgrade to Windows 10

Here it is April 2016 and still no upgrade. I signed up for the upgrade and got a message saying it was coming. I've done that once a month ever since last July. What happens if the free upgrade time passes and I still do not have it? Was the FREE
    upgrade just a con game?

Hi and welcome to the forum! *Biggrin

You can use the Media Creation Tool to download Windows 10 at any time.

For a tutorial see Windows 10 - Upgrade Installation - Windows 10 Forums
When you reached step 2 in that tutorial, go on with "To Upgrade to Windows 10 using Media Creation Tool"!

Hi there and thanks, I tried the steps shown in the tutorial. I still can't install it. The message i get is "The language or edition of Windows currently installed on you're PC is not supported by this tool."

Run showkey from this forum. What version of Windows do you currently have?
    Showkey - Windows 10 Forums

Hint: if you want to post a screenshot of the showkey result, click on the Product Key(s) and they will X out.

I am also unable to upgrade my Dell Venue 8 pro to windows 10. I have tried all possible methods like from GWX, with media creation tool and resetting tablet and then doing above. But it goes as far as 91% while upgrading and shows going to reboot. But finally reboots to windows 8.1. I am at loss what to do to upgrade.

In addition, I strongly suggest you make an image of your system on a second drive BEFORE the upgrade plus a rescue disk using the same backup program.

I didn't have any problem on mine, maybe you got a bad download from Windows Update service.

A tip for your Venue: I got a 64GB MicroSDXC card [SanDisk] for mine, works fine. It's formatted as exFAT, not FAT32 or NTFS.

  10. Mate, BEFORE you upgrade, make sure you CAN upgrade. I recommend checking to see if your computer/motherboard manufacturer supplies Windows 10 drivers for your system. Check online right now to find out.

If it gives you the drivers, I would say keep troubleshooting the issue you have. If not, I really suggest you do not upgrade, as the generic drivers Windows provides often don't cut it, and you experience major issues (crashing, slowdowns, etc.).

Hence the reason to create an image of the device before upgrading. That way, whatever happens, even if Windows 10 fails and corrupts the hard drive, you can still rollback easily and quickly.

With all due respect, I definitely don't agree that a system will be unstable without win10 drivers. There are many old devices known to be functioning perfectly with older drivers. It all depends on the individual system, the unique combination of installed hardware, software, and in the case of upgrades, all the 'cruft' or stuff leftover from previous Windows editions. Sometimes it is leftover hidden malware causing the problem. IMHO it is often better to do a clean install, after a successful activation of the win10 upgrade, regardless of whether the upgrade is functioning correctly or not.

    Just my ever-so-humble-opinion *Biggrin

  12. Always a good idea to back up your stuff, but that was already said, so I didn't need to.

Concerning the drivers, my experience with my office and home computers tells me it is far better to have the drivers than not. But it CAN work without them for some computers, and that is why I said things like "I recommend", and "I really suggest", and "[...]drivers often don't cut it". It is possible, but I've encountered far too many issues without the right drivers as to make the risks worth it.

But others disagree with me, and that is awesome! I am only one of many helpful voices, and the choice always lies with the thread starter.

And yes, it is best to do a clean install, but the upgrade is just easier. I've only used the upgrade option on my PCs, but I've kept virus free as well. So many ways to do something haha. But I wasn't trying to advocate either way. Just probably the most common way to do it is through the upgrade, and probably why I said upgrade in my post.

So best we can do is just give our suggestions and see if any of them are helpful to the guy *Biggrin

Thanks for the response. I tried so many times. May be once or twice, download may be bad. I have tried more than 20 times. Of course, I also have 64GB MicroSDXC, it is formatted NTFS. How can it corrupt windows 10 upgrade?

The formatting of the MicroSDXC shouldn't be the problem as it's only for storage, any download of Win10 should go onto the C: drive but I was given a choice of the D: drive during the install for storing temporary files, just about 16GB worth. The MicroSDXC drive could be FAT32 but Windows will balk at that do to it's own limitations of FAT32. I once used a 64GB USB Thumb drive for the suggested recovery drive but Win10 would only format 32GB of it as FAT32 and left the rest of the drive unusable in Disk Management, had to use a different method away from Windows to recover the whole capacity.

Make sure your tablet is plugged in. If WIndows thinks your battery is low it may abort the installation.
