  1. Stop "Runtime Broker" from running constantly in the background

It is used by Windows Store and since Windows slowly migrates its GUI into metro, some system apps might use it as well. It is best to disable some functions to keep it calm, like disable running background apps in Privacy settings, turn off live titles in Start and disable "Show tips about Windows" in Action Center.

Interesting, Found some apps in (running background apps in Privacy settings), to be turned back on?

    Will watch these areas.

    Thank you

With the value set to 4 it (Runtime Broker) doesn't seem to run as aggressively as it did before. So, when it piles up I just go into the task manager and stop it.

  4. Stop "Runtime Broker" from running constantly in the background

I've tried most of the options I could find on the forums. Without success.
Finally found a fix (for now anyways) using File monitor and looking for Runtime Broker, I was able to find a lot of activity on my pictures. Went to the photo app and removed the "Source" folder in the settings it had added by default.
So far, runtime broker is no using <1% CPU and <10Mb of memory...

From what I see, runtime broker is to manage metro / universal apps. The solutions I'm seeing is to uninstall store apps until you find the culprit.

The Drill for Me When Runtime Broker Decides to Hog My CPU

After a Windows 10 update-reboot, my computer sometimes "forgets" that is was previously configured not to run Groove Music in the background.
Sooooo ... the machine of course bogs down due to Runtime Broker CPU over-usage.
Here is how I quickly handle it:

    • With TaskManager kill Runtime Broker (so I can do something on my computer without waiting for hell to freeze over)
    • In settings>privacy>background apps turn off Groove Music and, if you have a lot of pictures, turn off Photos too.
    • In Services, stop and then restart the Time Broker service (Run/Open services.msc). This re-launches up Runtime Broker task which now behaves per the settings you just fixed in #2 above.

I would sure like to know what other settings I had set only to be changed randomly it seems on Windows 10 updates. Guess I'll have to wait until something bad happens.

Hey guys, over here is a much larger thread on this process and file.

Solved Runtime Broker Process - Page 6 - Windows 10 Forums

You should definitely check it out and run Aegis as well. Post your replies there and let's have the mods close this one, unless there is a merge feature??? lol

Stop "Runtime Broker" from running constantly in the background

    Hi
I have tried this particular registry method & it didn't work timebroker still ran in background.
I then had a look in the same key under parameters, & noticed two files linked to the process
that are located in c:\windows\system32 folder, otherwise shown as %systemroot%\system32
TimeBrokerServer.Dll, &s TimeBrokerClient.Dll. I have used unlocker to rename these files to
be DisabledTimeBrokerServerDll, & DisabledTimeBrokerClientDll once these were renamed
I then opened services.msc went to timebroker and I made sure it was set as disabled. I then
I opened task manager killed off the timebroker process and I restarted my system OK so far
    Kind Regards
    MrPj57

Well that did not work, TimeBroker is still launched from somewhere else as it still runs
has anyone found a way to cripple destroy or remove it from your system permanently

It now uses 0% CPU so it is idling but the memory use is appaling cannot afford this app

Any followup feedback would be appreciated.

  11. It still runs, can there be another registry entry somewhere?
