Windows 10: Stop updates?

As the title states, is there any way to stop automatic updates completely? Win 10 updates itself right in the middle of me working/gaming/drawing/etc... I’ve lost countless hours of work and art from win 10 updating and restarting without warning and corrupting files I’m working on. Is there any way to stop this? I’ve tried several different things, such as registry edits, services.msc changes, etc... yet it still continues to happen. It refuses to do updates during the hours I had set and just randomly decides to restart whenever it feels like it.

Alternatively does anyone know of an user friendly OS that isn’t windows I could replace it with?

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.
