How old is the laptop itself?

That WinPE and Windows installation setup aren't stable isn't an issue with the HDD, because the WinPE's use the RAM only.
This means that there are multiple hardware issues with the laptop.

    Just answering this part.
The drive may be read by Windows setup and WinPE, but AFAIK it should not cause a BSOD like a 0x23(FAT_FILE_SYSTEM). That is with a HDD that isn't completely dying at least.

Hi! I installed ubuntu in my USB (wow this usb has had so many bootables in the past 2 days).

I'm here now using the laptop in question.

I found out that ubuntu has a chkdsk equivalent called fsck. Here's what happened:

    ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo parted /dev/sda 'print'
    Model: ATA TOSHIBA MQ01ABD1 (scsi)
    Disk /dev/sda: 1000GB
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512B/4096B
    Partition Table: msdos
    Disk Flags:

Number Start End Size Type File system Flags
    1 1049kB 210MB 209MB primary ntfs boot
    2 210MB 977GB 977GB primary ntfs
    3 977GB 1000GB 23.3GB primary ntfs
    4 1000GB 1000GB 107MB primary fat32 lba

    ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo unmount /dev/sda3
    sudo: unmount: command not found
    ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo umount /dev/sda2
    ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ sudo parted /dev/sda 'print'

I think that a good option is to replace the laptop.

Usually the easiest parts to replace are the hard drive and RAM. Since the RAM is fine, the hard drive may not be the only issue and considering the circumstances where testing the other parts is pretty much impossible a good option is replacement.

    Hi Axe0,

Do you know if there's another PE that can run chkdsk that's bootable?
