Stopping the 'Blue Screen' from 'popping up' for Win 10 'invasion'!

Not necessarily. There's no need to use third party tools to upgrade, particularly if they don't report errors properly. In fact, I can't recall seeing any posts on TenForums saying they had used WUMT to perform an upgrade. As I said...
Should that way of upgrading fail a full error code will be reported identifying the problem encountered. There are plenty of people on TenForums that can provide a solution, given that error code.

Not that it's likely to fail, general consensus on these boards is that a manual upgrade is the most reliable method, often succeeding where letting Windows Update perform the upgrade had failed.

  2. OK.
Having now got the Windows 10 ISO File can you possibly remember how long the installation and configuration took in total please? (Ball park time would be OK)

I just don't want to start this at night and find I am still here at 04:00hrs in the morning!

Also having Windows Updates, and UpdateOrchestrator currently 'Disabled' will not cause any 'problems' carrying out the upgrade manually?

    Cheers

    @Traveller11

    Until Bree comes back....

    1) I would re-enabled those 2 services before attempting the in-place upgrade. Both set to manual.

    2) Time varies, of course, but estimate would be 30-60 minutes.

Traveller, you may not want to listen to the folks here in TenForums, and that's your prerogative; however, before you completely discount everything you've been told, I feel I must tell you this:

Software vendors, including those who create operating systems, don't upgrade just to give us new bells and whistles or stuff we don't want. They also upgrade to protect us from scammers, hackers and identity thieves that are looking to steal our personal information and our money.

It takes constant vigilance by Microsoft and OEMs, hardware vendors, and security app builders such as Norton, McAfee, Avast, Malwarebytes, and a host of others, to keep your system safe. Just recently, both Intel and AMD CPUs somehow allowed Ransomware into our computers! Whether we know or want to admit it, each and every operating system, in fact every computer system at one point or another is going to be vulnerable to attack, which necessitates upgrades in order to close security holes.

The Federal Trade Commission advises us to keep our systems updated:

"Update Your Software. Keep your software – including your operating system, the web browsers you use to connect to the Internet, and your apps – up to date to protect against the latest threats. Most software can update automatically, so make sure to set yours to do so."

Just in Task Scheduler/Microsoft/Windows to reset Windows Updates, and UpdateOrchestrator to manual and cannot do it as all I get is Ready.
You do not get a selection to choose from.I then tried re-setting Windows Update in 'services.msc' to Manual and got an error message telling me 'Access is denied'.

I also now get another error message when trying to run the ISO Update tool on the USB that it won't work on this PC and a number of files appear to be corrupted.

So the only course left now is installing a Macrium good image from before I tried this 1709 Upgrade and start all over again!!!

Time for a bit of breakfast I think, and let the Blood Pressure settle back down! *Mad

  9. Interesting!

Did you download the correct bit version (x86/x64), correct language (en_gb/en_us) and correct edition (Home/Pro)?

The above is important for upgrades.

  10. Huomenta (Hello) slicendice

    Hmmm..........

I guess you haven't tried the 'Manual' Microsoft ISO Update Tool?

When you download it Microsoft have taken car of the questions you posed by 'interrogating' (Like the USA CIA!) your machine to determine what you have got installed, then if you haven't got a clue you at least get the right one!
Kind of nice of them really as at least they got something right! *Biggrin*Biggrin

    Meanwhile...........

Having now restored a previous image with Macrium (Blessings for small mercies and that program!) I can now start the rest of the Operation.......!

So while a new copy of the ISO Tool is being downloaded (That takes around 1 hour!) I can go and repair the Microwave so we can cook dinner this evening! Yippee! *Wink*Wink

  11. Yes I have used it if we are talking about Microsoft Windows Media Creation Tool. I use this tool a lot. You can still download any edition and any language with it, regardless of your current Windows specs. The defaults however will match your current setup.

If we are talking about any other tool from MS like Microsoft Windows Upgrade Assistant, then I don't use it and can't help any further.

  12. It is the Manual "Microsoft Windows Media Creation Tool (ISO Update Tool)" which for some reason after getting it downloaded to a 32Gb USB Memory Stick, come back when I just tried to run it with Error messages on 4 files having tried running 'setup.exe'!
The error messages are telling me it won't work on Windows, and it might be corrupt!

So now we gonna try to make an ISO file for a CD/DVD!

    OK!

If that does not work either then try this:

Download the ISO for specific Edition, Language and Bit version that match your current Windows, using the MCT (Media Creation Tool download).
If the ISO is already downloaded, then you don't have to do this twice, since it is re-usable.

Then use Rufus to write that ISO file to your USB thumb drive, and boot your computer from that stick, and finally follow the instructions.

    OR

Use any DVD burning utility to write the image to a DVD. I'd prefer the USB stick though, since the images get old quite quickly.

Task Scheduler! When you said "Disabled", I think we all took that as the Services. Sorry for the misinterpretation.

  15. When downloading the Media Creation Tool file after clicking on the link, all I get is a File downloaded to my PC, I cannot specify the Edition, Language and Bit version that matches what I have in the PC at that point.
    (Win10 Home v1607, English, 64Bit)

Then when I then run the tool after downloading it I get this screen,(Picture Attached) and removing the 'Tick in the box' all I can change is the Language, the other 'selections' show only Windows 10 while the bottom selection shows 32Bit, 64Bit or Both.

I would also prefer the USB Memory Stick but I cannot understand why I am getting the error messages telling me the program will not work in Windows!
