    Strange case of the missing icons


    A very odd phenomena in Windows 10 Pro Desktop...

    All icons at a frequently visited forum WEB site revert to placeholders. This is very recent.


    Three different browsers do the same, yet on a Laptop the icons remain.

    Restoring a Desktop PC system image from a time when icons displayed restores them as well.


    Cookie and temp file deletion makes no difference. SFC and CHKDSK are clean.


    What might cause this to occur on this specific site and PC? No issue on any other site.

    App Icons Missing

    Hi Donna,

    Corrupted applications are the possible causes why your program icons are missing after an update. To isolate your issue, we'd like to clarify a few things:

    • When you hover your mouse over your taskbar or Start menu, are you seeing the icons for your apps?
    • Have you tried searching for a specific app and check if it will appear on the search results?

    Strange USB-Drive Icons

    Hi, I've not looked into this at all, but looking at that folder the one that appears to contain the strange icon is
    f4e323bf-0f31-42b6-9ad6-5d5382d3fa83
    - I don't have one called 797289b8-812a-4d9e-bda5-91567fd47bc6

    Would I be correct in thinking that this ico file is the clue as to which to delete?

    And thanks- having deleted the folder it did indeed prove necessary to use Driver Booster as described. Problem solved- for now...
